So, OT, I left facebook.

Closed my account today.

I've just had enough fb for a lifetime, that thing was taking away a lot of time from me, it's pointless really, im done with the "social network" stage that most people go through during their teens.

It's a site filled with attention whores, stupid people, stupidity and so on.

I couldn't stand the barrage of memes, bad jokes, things I didn't cared a rat's ass about (I had a friend who updated her status about every small think she was about to do...like "About to eat popcorn!" "sitting on the couch!" "turning on the tv" "watching a movie" "eating popcorns now" "movie is soo good".

another girl posted stuff like "humans are worse than animals, animals are amazing humans sucks all humans should die support animal rights extremism blablabla"

And I couldn't even delete them because they were real life friends...

Anyway, I didnt left because of them, but those kind of posts, where like an epiphany to me, that site really has nothing good to offer.

Do you have fb, ot? if you do have it, I'd really recommend you to close it.

Im not saying that im superior because of that...im saying that I feel happy about maturing in this way, im accepting that I was inmature, I no longer need to be in a social network such as fb, now Im gonna value my anonymity a lot more.

I deactivated my account a few months back. A couple days later my dad called me up complaining.

Why didn't you just delete every person who's annoying? That's what I do. I've got a Facebook tab open pretty much every time I go online, but I've only got about 30 friends on there. I refuse to use it on my phone, though.

Exactly. If you don't like someone or they annoy the shlt out of you, just delete them and go about your business.

When I first signed up I would accept friend requests from every random old acquaintance that sent me one and naturally it was annoying as hell. No, I don't want to see every aspect of your kids growing up, no I don't want to see every e-card you post, or every ancient meme you just discovered, no I don't want to play any crappy games or listen to your political bickering.

I deleted everyone who either annoyed me, or I just didn't know too well to begin with. I also set it to were any time I'm tagged in a photo or post it never makes it to my timeline. Now I have a handful of friends and family that I keep up with on there and I have a ton of subscriptions to groups and people I'm actually interested in. And its nice. Just about every thing that comes through my feed is something I genuinely care to see. I'm really into art, both traditional and digital, so my page is always updating with cool work from artists I enjoy. Very convenient.

I actually did close my account leading up to elections. FB was doing a great job of reminding me that humans are just animals. Even after it was over, the primate poo slinging just wouldn't stop.

I did like one of the above posters though, and took out the trash. Probably deleted %70 of my "friends" and its been MUCH better since.

Facebook is really good for organising those get-togethers and seeing what old friends are up to. I don't get annoyed by people's statuses either, even if they are about mundane stuff.

Meh I stopped using it, because it is filled with silly/whiny teens, but recently (after a year), I have been going on it passively, just to see how stupid the world has gotten.

I dont care about the social thing, it just comes in handy if someone is about to leak an exam or happens to know what questions are coming in the final.
