Smartest way to use $300?

I just filed my tax returns and I have $300. I was thinking about maybe starting some sort of investment account, though I am not sure exactly how they work or if I even have enough money to start one. I am going to go to the bank and ask them about some options, but I just wanted to know what you guys think first. I am 17.

I thought you can't just have a savings acct.It would be nice if the government stepped in and said yes a person can have only a savings acct.

As for savings... You can open a checking/savings account at a bank (better to do a national bank so you have access all over, not just local, and don't even up paying ATM fees if you need to withdraw money and your bank isn't around)... $300 isn't a lot to get started with, so basically all you can do is put it in a checking or savings account... No savings accounts are "high" interest in this economy (1.1-1.2% APY compared to 3.5%+ APY in 2006 and before), and you can't really start one anyways with $300... So basically just hold onto it.

thanks to another thread on the front page, it might me the best investment to try your hand at indoor agraculture. i am sure you could make a good growing platform and start up for about 300. lets just say your "tomatose" could bring a good return on your investmentsurrealnumber5
