According to a story from the news agency Reuters, it is estimated that only 4% of households with a television have an HDTV (48 million homes out of 1.2 billion homes with a TV).

I wanted to see if that same ratio applies to gamers, so I thought I’d make an unscientific poll here at Gamespot. So how about it? Do you game SD or HD? I myself fall in the SD category (except for PC games, of course).

I figure the gaming community will have a higher ratio of HD:SD users than the general population, but I'm not sure where it will end up - please keep voting on the poll. Tell me your guess of how the ratio will pan out.

I love my SD TV. My next upgrade will most likely be to 480p EDTV, so I can play Shadow of the Colossus, God of War and Twilight Princess in all their 480p glory.

EDTVs simply aren't worth it. HDTVs can do 480p.  EDTVs cost almost as much as HD sets, so you're not really saving that much money.

Are they talking worldwide I assume? If so, that's not really a fair statement, considering most countries haven't adopted the technology yet.

I still game in SD, since I don't play games very often anyway. I'm not planning on getting an HD anytime soon.

Yes, they are referring to worldwide numbers. Here's an except that shows a breakdown:

"The report said some 58 percent of HD homes were currently found in the United States and 20 percent in Japan, with Britain, Canada, China and Germany also high on the list."

I have a CRT Samsung HDTV (the 30 inch slimfit) at the moment, but I've had so many problems with it that I'm thinking of getting rid of it and buying a cheaper SD holdover until the prices on flat panel HD's come down a bit further.

Thanks for the observation, but I'm neither a scientist, a researcher, nor emotionally invested in the outcome of the poll, merely curious. So the unscientific results will suffice.

if you had to choose between a free hdtv and a free sdtv, you would be retarded to choose sd.  but money limits some people, so hd for people who can afford, sd for people who cant

I have my 360 connected to a computer monitor so I have HD for that. I don't have an actual HDTV though.
