Atheists, it's not like if you don't believe in god you're going to go to hell. But why not just do it to make everyone else happy? Why must you be defiant.:|BananaNutsI don't believe in hell, so I don't care.
Can you force yourself to believe something?AnObscureNameI would LOVE to believe in god and/or an afterlife. However, I can not just turn it on like a lightswitch.

Pretty much this...
Because their is no proof of god's existence. Give me some proof that he exists and I'll follow your logic.Rocky32189Nobody has a true answer to the question at hand because, well. Theres no good reason not to believe in the almighty.
It is more equitable to believe in god than it isn't to be quite honest. If I don't believe in god and I end up being wrong I go straight to either limbo or heck. If I do believe in god and end up being wrong I get nothing. Not to mention, believing takes relatively little time out of your day to day life. So in return for a marginal ammount of time, you have the option of eternal bliss or nothingness, as opposed to not believing and being sent to heck for all eternity because you didn't spend like 10 minutes praying or something. So, I should believe out of fear of the consequences? Which interpretation of God's word should I believe? Catholic? Eastern Orthodox? Sufi? Sunni? Baptist? Scientology?

I'll give you reasons not to believe in a god. Because there is no proof of his existence, and science provides a more reasonable explanation to the earth's creation. Also, science has already disproved many things written in the bible, so why is it right about creation?
Why believe in God? See what I did there?Blu_Falcon37How else was this planet made? or any other planet in the galaxy?

If you want to be a pragmatist, it is better to believe in god.

Oh sure, if you want to believe facts, like some kind of gullible fact-believing heathan! It is more equitable to believe in god than it isn't to be quite honest. That argument would work if it were the case that people could believe something just because they wanted to. The problem is that that isn't true. The best someone can do is lie to themselves - they will believe what seems to them as being the likeliest thing to be true regardless.
It's not like believing in God will get you to heaven either... Hmm? 5000th post? Nice.supercubedude64

If you want to be a pragmatist, it is better to believe in god. As an agnostic, I believe that if God exists, he surely will only allow agnostics into heaven. Thus, it's better to be agnostic since it will get you into heaven, so you might as well start believing that you have no belief either way.
