On MSNBC today, Congressman Steve King reacted to a fellow panelist’s comment about white people by saying something kind of unbelievable.

Esquire‘s Charles Pierce talked about “old white people” commanding the GOP and said that the halls of the RNC convention are filled with “loud, unhappy, dissatisfied white people.”

And this is what King proceeded to say:

“This whole ‘white people’ business, though, does get a little tired, Charlie. I mean, I’d ask you to go back through history and figure out, where are these contributions that have been made by these other categories of people that you’re talking about? Where did any other sub-group of people contribute to civilization?”

Ummm....Ur? Uru? Eridu? I mean, they basically invented civilization, right?

Wow. Sometimes there are no words that can adequately describe such absurd comments. This is certainly one of those times.

Keep it up republicans. Do you see that audience at the convention? 99% white, ten gallon hats, crazy people. It can't end soon enough. Democrats have a majority white but also Hispanics, Blacks, Middle Eastern, Asians, Gays, Independent Women... and most importantly, sane people. Xenophobic racist sexist right wing rich people worshiping southern republicans are all in this election season! Trump for God's sake! That is who your standard bearer is! I know, you don't understand why he is an absurdity. That's because you are the problem. This party's days are numbered. Just a matter of time. The world rejoices.

The comment speaks for itself. It is so blatant that I would need to see what context it was said in. No elected official can be that brazen.

If that is exactly what he said it is ridiculous. with that being said though western civilization and the ideas of the enlightenment that have been expanded to protect more and more people over the last few hundred years is one of the greatest accomplishments of mankind and it is not even arguable. western civ is the gold standard for human rights and you protect it and champion it at all costs because as meager as it is and as many times as it has been perverted and fucked up it is still the best alternative. This is the reason anyone saying things like this is shouted down with rabid hysterical accusations, that's the only responce to inarguable concepts.

China and the Middle East (though people from the ME are in fact white) contributed a lot back in the day it's true. Most of the cool modern shit we have these days was invented by white European and American men. And sometimes, Japanese men too.

If it makes people feel better lots of those white men were probably gay.

Either way. You'll have to learn to deal with it.

@LJS9502_basic: Middle eastern is kind of ambiguous. Especially during certain time periods. But Egyptians were definitely black. Groups of people have come into Egyptian society in waves, but they were definitely black. The hieroglyphics, the various statues, the common cultural themes among many other African tribes in West, East, and Southern Africa.

The guy is an obvious racist and definitely only means to point the finger at white people. However, he "corrects" himself and tries to say he meant western civilization.

Either way he's completely wrong. The Middle East, China, Japan, and Africa have made great contributions to the world.

This is a spit in the face, considering the US was made on the backs of slaves from Africa.

@mark1974: I didn't just say they are racists. I also said they have created a giant nationwide black on black homicide spike, are getting cops killed and cheering it on in hundreds of thousands of tweets and social media comments and are completly at odds with reality while they go to bat for the most heinous criminals in the country while ignoring the deaths of wonderful amazing black people like john wayne whitmore, kaylin pryor, corey gabay and dozens of other fine role models who were the best and brightest of us all.

Isn't Babylon technically white/Caucasian? Egypt is debatable race wise, some people say they were Mediterranean, some say black, most likely it was racially mixed.

@GreySeal9: then don't give a shit about what dumb people say. The contributions to culture come from all over the world and anyone that does not know that is just a fool. You going to spend your time worried about the thoughts of fools? Don't waste your time. The arabs were inventing the scientific method and all kinds of other advances when the rest of the world was a shithole, the chinese were eating delicate appetizers and noodles off china in a restaurant when my ancestors were sleeping in thatch huts with their farm animals. There are thousands of other examples. If people don't know about shit like that why give them the time of day? Make fun of them and move on. Using it as some sort of example of the thoughts and feelings of normal people is useless because normal people don't feel that way.You take the best of these advances and use them to snuff out the old ways that is the reality of the situation and it is exactly what we have always done.

@n64dd: Talisker and other islay single malts have a lot of the signature smokey flavor that scotch is known for. There are sweeter bourbon like scotch's and the sherried ones can be quite nice. The Japanese are actually producing quite good whiskey too reminiscent of the Scotch of the past.

Talisker 10 year old is not overly expensive and is a pretty good example of islay style. Spending more for a better Talisker is almost always worth it though, I think.

Rum is a pirate's drink, how is that Republican? All I know is that The Sumerians invented beer, and they were not white. And it was at the same time Europeans were running around in skins, antlers on their heads.

@hillelslovak: I was just kidding because I prefer Scotch and want to give n64dd hell. Scotch is actually more "republican". Beer is my first and greatest love though. Don't get me started.

Would Scotch or Bourbon be more republican?

@n64dd: Bourbon! Are you kidding me? Straight Kentucky bourbon. Opposite would be Commie Russian Vodka.

I love bourbon too, and think Vodka's only purpose is to get drunk and not meant to be good.

Actually they weren't definitely black.

Nah i'm fairly certain. Various hieroglyphics depict them. Shirts off in the hot sun... definitely black people.

Different pigments were used so they were of a variety.

Different pigments to represent the variety of skin tones they have. Black Africans have the largest phenotypical skin color variation among populations.

I drank so much 90 Schilling that I actually had to switch it up in fear that me and 90 Schilling would lose our passion for each other. We agreed to see other people lol.

@n64dd: No. It's an interesting name though because when aging whiskey they refer to the part that evaporates as the angel's share. The thing I like about Bourbon is you can get good examples of it very cheap.
