My mom bought me roses for my birthday

I'm a guy. Guys don't get flowers. I gave them back to her (not in a mean way) but she got upset.

Am I in the wrong here?

Yes, you're wrong. It's a gift. Why didn't you just smile, say thank you, and keep them... they'll die eventually.

I would have been a little weirded out. Flowers are something you get a girl, or a guy who actually likes flowers. You don't seem to be either. Just tell her how you feel.

I would just apologize for upsetting her and say you appreciate the thought, but flowers aren't something you give a guy. Just say it makes you feel weird. That's what I would say.

But then again, my Mom doesn't try and emasculate me. =P

At least she gave you something, even if it isn't what you wanted. I would just have thanked her and smiled. Be grateful, it seems she cares for you.

It would have been a little odd to receive such a gift from anyone, especially your mum. I would have asked my mum "Why?"

That's nothing...a few years ago when I started a new job my GF at the time sent me flowers to work on my first day, delivered to me with a room full of people I've known for about 2 hours...so embarrassing...

It's a bit weird considering you're a male who obviously doesn't like flowers, but it probably would've been better to have just accepeted them and thanked her. Then you could've trashed them or put them in a vase afterwards.

Definitely weird for a guy's birthday gift. Even weirder that its from your mother. I can sort of understand if it was from a girlfriend or wife, but even still. I would apologize to her though, seems like her heart was in the right place, but it definitely missed the train. :P

Sounds like you and your mom need to spend some time together. The roses are probably a sign that you either don't have much in common and/or don't know each other very well.

It's kind of a wierd gift to get a guy, but nonetheless, it was very sweet of your mom. You could have just accepted them in a manly way. Like..."Interesting. Thanks mom, they're beautiful. But next time, a game would be nice."
