All I can say is... wow! What a calamity! Here's what the "Bullseye" article says of this fiasco in Entertainment Weekly Issue #1355-56 (March 20-27, 2015)

The verdict on the "Blurred Lines" trial: Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" should have been 2013's song of the summer.

I'm kind of worried about how this will impact "Weird Al" Yankovic's parody song called "Word Crimes".

Weird Al writes his songs as satire, so he is free from copyright issues (AFAIK). Pretty much his entire catalogue is merely him adding in new vocals over the original track.

As far as the Thicke issue is concerned, I've heard numerous different things, ranging from they were "inspired" by Gaye's song, to, they literally sampled part of Gaye's music in their song and didn't give credit.

Either way, better to just call the song a cover or give credit than play with copyright law.

Even worse, Gaye's family wants us all to prevent "Blurred Lines" from being played anymore! Does that also mean the end of "Word Crimes"? If it does, then maybe Weird Al should never have chosen "Blurred Lines" for the parody song to begin with. :(

Hahahaha.

I'm reading some of the responses and I'm shocked. Gaye's kids should get compensated for their father's music being ripped off. So many people are asking how this verdict will impact music. Simple. Don't steal someone else's work. Get permission and do it the right way while compensating the rightful party.
