Why would the battle of Tikrit be a good example my friend? If anything, it'd be the worst, since the Shia Iraqi gov took it as an affront to literally pummel down all the Sunni citizens in the area (which would give mentally twisted ISIS some credence in a region that long seeks liberation!).
Anyway, on-topic, like Ali said... this is trivial compared everything else going on in the region right now.
Well I didn't specifically say that the battle for Tikrit is a good example. But it did prove that the ISIS is not invincible.
Regarding the battle itself, I have to disagree that the Shia Iraqi government abused the Sunni citizens in that area.
Firstly you have to realize that the western media and the Saudi-backed media also, never stop their propaganda encouraging sectarian strife. For instance let's look at some of the Shia militias' alleged war crimes. Reportedly Shia soldiers burned down houses in Tikrit in revenge while the truth is that the ISIS had planted bombs and traps inside the houses and those were what caused massive damage to the houses in Tikrit. This is just one of the many examples of false accusations against Iraqi militias.
Secondly you have to realize that Nuri al Maliki who constantly abused Sunnis is gone and Haidar al Abadi has replaced him (as a request from sayyed Sistani). A quick look at the polls will instantly show you that Abadi has the support of 75 percent of the Sunnis.
Then you have to realize that to play the sectarian card is to downplay this victory that THE IRAQI PEOPLE achieved. It was not the militia that won this battle nor the government instead it was the NATION OF IRAQ. The fact that many Sunni volunteers and some Sunni tribes joined the fight is proof of that.
Lastly you should know that the misguided among Shia militias are to be punished as promised by Abadi. Surely in a basket of fine apples there are also some spoiled ones.
Again everyone should gather around under the flag of IRAQ instead of the flag of Shia or Sunni. Iraq should become confident once again that it can handle its own matters on its own. Without the help of factions or foreign aide, solely with the help of its Islamic nation.
It's been long since I've visited Iraq so I don't really know if Sunnis and Shias alike are happy about this victory or not but my guess is that they indeed are.
I think Abadi and others did everything they could to make this a clean fight. You should also read the letter of sayyed Sistani advising the Shia militias to fight according to the teachings of Islam. It was a beautiful letter. Here's the link. http://www.sistani.org/english/archive/25036/.
