It isn't a crime because the person was forced to do it under duress. There is an entire section of law devoted just to this type of thing.

How about the following? The hostage who is forced to kill another has to choose who they'll kill. Does that change anything?

Probably legal. As for the ethics, it seems to be a rather dark shade of grey to me. I do not think I'd be able to ever rest easily at night after pulling the trigger.

Legally, it's under duress so the hostage cannot be charged. As for the moral aspect, eh. I understand what had to be done had to be done.
