[QUOTE="MagnumPI"] Then boycott it. I wouldn't glamorize or glorify it by calling productive. More like wasting time. The boycotting can't compete with the demand.

You don't buy meat directly from the plant. Distributors do worldwide. Such as grocers and restaurants. The demand is never low. A lot meat is wasted by resuraunts and grocers but they don't care, because the prices they get for the volume they buy they can afford to throw half of it away and they rarely do. The mark up on meat is high because it's quickly perishable. Nothing but Delis and Steakhouses everywhere with plenty of room for competition.

Boycotters are no threat. The only progress you could ever make would be to cause resturaunts or delis to lose some profits on meat related sales. Maybe put one out of business because it can't compete (which is a pipe dream anyway) but another franchiser or up and comer will replace it. You'll never hurt the big guy only a few of the millions of little guys.

Boycotting has and always will be a futile feeble desprate attempt to stop something. Time will go on and people will realize nothing has changed and their efforts have wasted several years of their lives.

If you think eating meat is wrong then don't eat meat. But don't think you can knock down a building with a tack hammer.

Squidney

did you even read what i said? i never mentioned boycott...so you're arguing with yourself. and not making much of a difference at that because AS I said before its not going to change everything. but I'm doing it for myself and if someone wants to know why then i will tell them. And for the record, making a change doesn't mean stopping delis and stakehouses, it means making changes in the factories so that the animals are treated better and conditions aren't as bad. which was my arguement in the first place. This is achieved all the time because people stand up for what is right and create investagation and knowledge spreadingorganizations.

If you are suggesting not purchasing meat so meat processors will lose business you are advocating boycott. You're right, you didn't say boycott, but you defined it. So what's the difference genius?

The argument of the in-humane treament of animals in the farms is completely irrelevent when it comes to the millions starving on the planet..  Yes you can clearly say thats wrong and it should change when its YOUR BELLY thats full..

I just want to say I've been a vegan for 3 years now, and it's honestly the best decision I've ever made. I ate meat for 23 years or so, and after a couple months of switching over, I've never felt better in my life. To each their own of course, but seriously it's been excellent. And no, I'm not pale and sickly. In fact I'm a bit overweight at the moment.

I believe everyone should make their own decisions, but wow there are a lot of ignorant people posting in this thread. The ones I'd like to point out are the ones that say you need meat to survive... I have a question for them. If it's necessary to eat meat, then why does the average vegetarian have a longer life expectancy than the average non-vegetarian? Simple question, just curious :)

You stupid vegetarians. Don't say, "Don't eat meat," just say, "Only eat meat from farms with good conditions." Not all farms have horrible animal conditions. If anything, just tell people to hunt deer or moose and eat that. Or just buy free range meat.

Of course it's not wrong to eat meat. In fact, it's quite natural.

Also, where did you get that "fact" about vegetarians have a longer average life expectancy? Did you just pull it out of your ass or is there a source?

You give him to much credit! This man needs no source for his information!

Actually, the United States and Canada issued a joint report last year endorsing the vegetarian diet, and it covered pretty much everything(pros and cons). I'll try and find a link.

Here's one link with a study about California 7th Day Adventists who are vegetarian, comparing to the mortality rate of other Californians.

Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that it is not necessary to eat meat to survive or be healthy. That's all. And again as I expressed in my previous post, I don't care what you choose to do. So you don't need to act defensive :)

Well whatever works for you  but heres my opinion

Since I'm Catholic I believe that God gave us dominion over the animals

So therefore we can eat them

I was about to say dominion = PWNAGE

I would say no. Every living thing will consume protein if given the opportunity.

My apologies. Sometimes I let my overzealous crazed attitude get to me. I think I've been eating too much tofu and grass....

I'd call anything that involves animal domestication and slaughter, mass deforesting, or mass pollution morally wrong. But luckily I live in America. Out of sight, out of mind. As long as I'm not thinking about it, it can't bother me. Some say that makes me a hypocrite, others an idiot. But once again, I just have to not think about it. Yay for hypocrisy!
