iPad 2 + 3G for Verizon

Okay, I am getting the iPad for X-Mas and I was wondering if I get the 3G iPad, would I have to start paying for the 3G when I get it? Or can I wait to get it because I am in the process of getting a job and my parents won't pay the $30/month.

Probably because they don't know any better. The marketing is quite extensive. I'd highly recommend a netbook or a Windows 8 tablet, but to each it's own.
