But sometimes, she can be ridiculous. Today she told me she still believes Obama's a Muslim because he "uses the same verbiage as Muslims." We got into a whole political discussion about socialism and Obama's parentage and the healthcare bill and yadda yadda yadda.

You ever have political discourse with your parents? Do you agree with them or no? Got any horror stories for us? :P

I typically agree with my parents about Politics. Our arguements are more over how I spend my time.

I talk politics once in a while with my parents but they don't usually try to challenge me too much in it considering my education background. My mom seemed slightly taken aback when I said I like Jack Layton and the NPDs.

The only reason my parents don't vote Republican is because they are convinced that they hate Hispanics. Though, they probably would vote that way if the church people told them to. Not paying attention @ church FTW!!! :P On topic: no they do not know. Same thing applies with religion debates. lol

Well, that depends. We vote for the same candidates for different reasons, although we do agree on the majority of the issues. I am way free market leaning and somewhat less socially conservative. It's basically made realize how profoundly different conservatives and libertarians really are.

EDIT: And yes, they know quite a bit about politics.

1) I see what you did there. 2) I wish to punch in the face anyone who thinks Obama is a Muslim. 3) I avoid political discussion with my parents as it's mostly futile.

No.... hearing my Dad trying to talk about politics is just painful. The worst part is he throws around all the media's favorite catch slogans without having ANY idea what they mean. It's kind of embarrassing

They know a little bit of this and a little bit of that, but my father in particular never talks politics. My mother also rarely does, but she just doesnt care. I think both of my parents just don't give a damn. I however do have some interest in politics, as it can be entertaining and interesting.

It's the same way with me. My parents are smart with what they do, don't get me wrong, but they are not always the most knowledgeable people in many subjects, especially my dad. My dad is one of those whose main reason for not liking Obama is because of his race (sadly). :( His reasoning for not liking other politicians have their justification in statements like "he's sneaky." While my dad has his problems, he certainly has his good qualities. I'd just never ask for his advice on certain topics such as politics.

My parents just think all politicians are crooks (imagine that), and aren't really ideological one way or another. Maybe a little right of center, but pretty moderate overall. My grandparents are a little more interesting. My mom once told me that they got into a big argument over the 1968 election, which ended with my grandma throwing a glass of water in my grandpa's face.

I love your mother, too. /inappropriate-comment-that-was-clearly-just-a-joke-and-should-not-be-modded-kthx I don't talk to my parents about politics. My dad always tries to start a political conversation with me, but I always shoot it down in a matter of seconds or just walk away. There is no political discourse between my family and I. There was, however, a bit of discourse when my sister told my dad that she was voting for John McCain. My dad voted for Obama, and you can guess where that conversation wound up. In short, my sister accused Obama of being a Muslim, my dad got pissed off and said that his religion doesn't make a worse/better politician, and then my sister left the house screaming, "YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND!" Needless to say, I laughed.

My father is a politician, but thankfully is kind enough to have good conversations without forcing his views. Most of the time. I inherited an anarchist artery from him.

My dad probably knows too much about politics. It's all he ever talks about sometimes. My mom knows enough and has her own beliefs, but she has only minimal interest in politics. She only discusses things she knows about and/or cares about. I respect that.

Having spent his working life in the foreign service my father is pretty switched on, albeit his political views are somewhere to the right of Louis XIV. I try not to have this kind of discussion though - it doesn't go well with red wine.

My mom won't even tell me who she voted for, or what party she's in favor of. But that's fine, I listen to other people's parents yell about obama being muslim and how fox news is a credible source for things, so it evens out.

My mum's political knowledge is lacking, but she has enough basic knowledge to argue a point. My father is very knowledgeable in politics, constantly watching the programs and the such as well as reading papers.

My parents and I talk about politics. We first began talking politics back around 2002. I was opposing the war in Iraq because so many of the claims (aluminum tubes, uranium from Niger, etc) were being debunked by the U.N. weapons inspectors like Hans Blix. I told them flat out that the war was a bad idea. At the time, they asked me "Where's your patriotism Jim?!" Since then, they, being open-minded folks, have changed their political views dramatically. We exchange articles and pass along useful bits of news. Today, they're both active liberals.

He talks about Health Care Reform. Health Care Reform is socialist. Muslims are socialist. Obama is a Muslim!! How do you not see the connections Spazz?! Edit: Also, if you play his speeches backwards there's hidden readings of the Quran in them. :P

They are politically active. I agree with them on a lot of domestic issues, not so much when it comes to foreign policy. They are also both big Bill Clinton fans, which is something that I am not.

My mother doesn't talk much about politics, if she ever does, it's either to me about who out of the Liberals and Labour party has the policies that will benefit us more. She'll take that advice and go vote, it's an annual thing.

Dad, eh. Kinda a funny one, some weird cross between pseudo-marxism and ol' time British imperialism. Most of the conversations we have will be either about the latest news in politics or lefty ideology. We never agree much though, he's far too authoritarian ideologically and muddle-minded when it comes to argumentation for me to concur.

I think that makes Obama more like Judas Priest than a Muslim
