How serious is Lyme Disease?

My girlfriend just got diagnosed with it, she is 19 years old. She is starting a set of antibiotics for 21 days, to see if that helps. We have no idea when she could have gotten it, and her mom said the last time she had a tick was a couple of years ago. So she has probably had lyme disease for 2 or more years. I'm looking up online everything about it, and I have not gotten that much information.

How serious is Lyme Disease? I know that certain things might happen, but what do you all think? Should I be worried for her life or what?

My mother had Lyme disease many years back. She's still alive and kicking, but unfortunately other health problems arose unconnceted to the Lyme disease. That makes it hard to tell what was the Lyme disease and what was other stuff.

I wouldn't be worried for her life.

The disease itself is not that fatal I believe but I think it leads to complications that can be life threatening. I do know it can be very tough to get rid of and can take years before it is cured, if it every truly is.

A) Did your GF tell her that or this the mom's own words?
B) Last time she knowingly had a tick? It's possible she never knew it was there.

This was her moms own words, and a couple years ago was the last time she knowingly had a tick. But yeah, it is possible that it could be recent, and just didnt realise. Im looking a bunch of stuff up, and I think i found out that whatever symptoms she has now, will not get worse after treatment.. they might go away, or stay there, but they probably will not get worse..hopefully that is true
