I'm normally wanting 6-7, but I'm wondering what is needed. So, how long do you sleep?

How long can you function properly, and is caffeine a benefactor?

Lately it seems I cant manage on anything but over 8 hours. Its like anywhere from 1-5 hours I can, then 5-7 is no good and 8+ is perfect. I need to get out of this sleeping schedule.

Geez. 1-5? No way for me. If I do that, I'm seriously like a zombie walking around grunting at people.

Around 4-6 hours I can manage fine. I always say I'm going to get a good night sleep like 10 hours but I find it hard to get to bed that early.

On days that I'm off, I sleep around 8-10 hours. On days that I go to university, I normally get about 5-6 hours sleep. Always so refreshed for university in the morning!

I work early one day a week and often i get only about 2hrs of sleep before waking up. It's not near enough as once i get home i can fall asleep in minutes but if i get even an hour of a nap afterwards i could stay awake another several hours.

Well I'm a student and I have no place to go but school. I don't know how I slept full whole 16 hours, but I guess it was the lack of sleep the days before.

To the people saying they need 8+ hours, that's not healthy. 8 hours isn't even the right amount of sleep. At 8 hours I've overslept and wake up with a headache.

A normal night for me is getting to bed about 2 am and waking up by 8 for work at 9. But to get to bed by 4 or 5 am is not out of the ordinary and I function perfectly fine and I still go on till 1 or 2 am that night. Right now for instance its almost 2 am and I feel like I could stay awake till 5 no problem after waking up at 9 this morning(it was a weekend).

I can go on 4 hours a week for a good two months. I was doing that during school last year, but as soon as break started, I started to sleep almost 18 hours a day for another 2 months. In the end, I guess I was just catching up on some sleep.

I've done that, too!

(said in the "that's something else I've done" tone, not the "I done that too, acknowledge me!!" tone. A lot of people think I do that here).

I usually get about 7 hours and I can function just fine. The problem comes when it's for weeks on end without the weekend to sleep in. Then I start to suffer.

How is it not healthy? It depends on your age and condition. Teens ideally need 10, adults need 8. My body can happily sleep for 10 hours and I then feel very alert and recharged. If my alarm has to get me up during the deep sleep period i.e. 4-7/8 hours I feel like crap for a good few hours. I'd much rather oversleep than undersleep.

I have messed up sleep paterns. I can function fine for about 2 days without any sleep as long as I'm doing something (I'll fall asleep as soon as I get comfortable though). Conversly, I can easily sleep 13 hours and not feel anymore rested than I did from sleeping for 5 hours. On average I probably get around 6-7 hours sleep.

if it's up to me, I would definitely go with 8+ hours a day.

But I can't help it, I really get depressed if I sleep early.

I've done 8 hours for 4 days before. Partying, studying, partying studying. My freshman year in college was all types of crazy.
