It was common in my family to marry first and second degree cousins, a tool to maintain family inheritances in the family, for example, my uncle Francisco was 3 times cousin of my father. Nowdays is not common anymore, the newer generations like mine no longer practice endogamy, I do have to say that I have several extremely atractive second and third degree cousins, truely beautiful women.

The Middle East aren't doing the worst? Why is always the Middle East singled out?

My hometown is quite inbred. You have to go back to the 19th century to find a common ancestor for both my mother and father though. Thankfully.

My kin is very diverse. Every time there is a family reunion, it's amazing to see. There would be Chinese, Caucasian, Philippine, Hispanic ethnicities present, dark and light complexioned, tall and short. We inter-marry a lot, but not with anyone we're related to. That's the one big no-no.

No, I don't think "messed up" is covered by this and only this map in its entirety. Even then, the few non Greater Middle Eastern African countries are doing pretty bad.

When I hear incest and inbred, I think of someone dating/marrying/sleeping with their brothers/sisters/mothers. It's a big no, no. Even cousins seem fishy to me and I wouldn't do it.

U.S. has done a good job cutting down on it. Used to be very prevalent 50+ years ago.
