Well recently I have been thinking of getting a hand gun... I know its stupid, but I just wanted to ask which one should I get?

I hear a lot about Glocks but I really do not know anything about them and hand guns in general... any ideas?

If I could, I would buy a Smith & Wesson Model 629. Its a revolver, and you can get a barrel upto 8 and half inches, so its probably a bit invonvenient if you're going to carry it with you.

Glocks, barretta, Smith and Wesson, HK, Taurus all make excellent handguns. If you want a small caliber like a .22 look into the Ruger handguns...great starter/plinker handguns.

Here is a link that might help with caliber info if you need it.

I'm a big fan of the .45ACP. Springfield Armory has a nice assortment of pistols, both the old fashioned 1911A1, and their award winning XD series. Seriously, the XD series has been American Rifleman's handgun of the year 2 years since the first one came out only like 3 years ago, once for the original models, and then again when they introduced the XD45. They're affordable, around $500-$600, reliable and accurate. I really wouldn't recommend a Glock for your first handgun, they have no external safeties, so once there's a round in the chamber there's nothing to stop a pull of the trigger from discharging the pistol. Not that a person should ever be in a situation where a firearm is pointed at something that you don't mind obliterating while having anything touching the trigger, it's still something that I'm not too tickled with. Also, a good .22 caliber would be a good place to start out, something like the Ruger Mk III, or Single-Six would be an excellent first gun. They're cheap to purchase, and cheap to shoot, and have no recoil (because they're pretty much one step above a pellet gun) so you can learn the basics of shooting. Also, ammunition for them costs like 1/10th what it costs for 9mm, and about 1/20th what it costs for .45ACP, and about 1/40th what it costs for .45 Glock.

My first handgun was a Walther P-38.
