At this point, I'd only watch a Star Wars re-release if they made Vader look like this: THE_DRUGGIEPersonally...
It feels like my whole life has been leading up to the moment I finally get to post that picture. Thanks.
I guess Lucasfilm's coffers must be running low. How many times can one person release the same set of movies with a new coat of paint over and over again?Hallenbeck77Fundamentally, what Star Wars really is is basically the most mainstream "geeky" thing ever. Lucas is obviously a geek and by extension he surely must play the occasional video game. Obviously he's just seen how successful the business model for the entire first person shooter genre is and decided to apply it to his movies. Yeah, that was a bit of a long walk.
Everything is in 3D now why cant they just make everything 4D. I mean if i saw this in the theatres id be happy.

Lucas..just...stop.FrostyPhantasmWhat? I'm not doing anything! Oh... that Lucas... *sigh* God damn senile bastard..

He had planned to do this quite a while ago actually. The original schedule had the original Star Wars in 3D coming out in 2007 if I remember correctly. Then after that announcement, everything went silent. So this is quite a bit later than I thought it would happen.
It's a bit like that live-action Star Wars TV series he was supposedly doing. Work was supposedly going on for years, then suddenly all the news around it went silent.
In any case, I'd be glad to see all of the Star Wars films again in 3D. I would enjoy that.

I think the new star trek film is more mainstream.

The new film is not the franchise as a whole.

Fundamentally, what Star Wars really is is basically the most mainstream "geeky" thing ever. The new film is not the franchise as a whole. The franchise as a whole has had a much larger impact in terms of the technology it inspired. That might be outside the venue of what mainstream means though.
I don't get why people complain, it's not like he's forcing you to watch it. Just stick with the orignal format and pretend nothing else exists.
I don't really care what he does with them so long as the original versions are still available.George Lucas is the only director I know of that works to destroy his own great movies.
Serraph105
Exactly. Anyway, I'd rather see the Star Wars movies in 3D than another Indiana Jones movie if it's going to be like the last one...I don't get why people complain, it's not like he's forcing you to watch it. Just stick with the orignal format and pretend nothing else exists.

Well, that was random.all the lightsaber will be replaced by walkie talkies and the cast will be replaced by ewoks.

Well, the 3D is probably going to suck, but at least Lucas isn't ruining the franchise any further; he's just milking what's already there. :P
