Game Design Worries.

Hello, I've been looking into Game Design for years now and I've tried multiple engines and game design products, but so far I've not had any luck finding the right software. I'm presueing a job in game design that involves Story Writing. But for some reason I feel that Story Design isn't really needed as much as the other jobs, such as character Animation and World Editing. (etc.) I'm also worried about how I can actually break into Game Design. I'm actually only Thirteen and I have no idea how to obtain a job in game designing. I was wondering if anyone can shed any light on my worries and share with me any (free) good Game Design training software. 

Also, would Google SketchUp work animating characters and designing the world?
