Why would West point Graduates applaude a Foreign born Socialist leader? It makes no sense to the People at Fox news.

I am not even shocked by FOX any more. Just amused.

next headline is going to be "Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly discovered by FBI to be a domestic terrorist group with plot to assassinate president" and I'd be like "No suprise there"

Spin isn't enough? They actually edit stuff now? This is like the Sarah Palin book signing with 8 million people at it, that was actually footage of a campaign stop.

That's almost comical. Perhaps the applause acoustics were interfering with Obama's teleprompter and that cancelled out the sound waves?

Is this really any different than airbrushing supermodels on magazine covers, or women wearing make-up? It's an attempt to alter reality in order to push an agenda. Happens all the time. Get over it. Move on and complain about something relevant.

a major news organization editing the speech of our president isn't relevant? Even of it does happen often,it doesn't mean it isn't worth pause and discussion to some of us

Yeah, it's a little different. If MSNBC had edited out applause for George W. would conservatives object? Of course they would. And rightfully so. Basically doing this is implying that the President does not have the support of the military during a time of war.

Women wear makeup to look better than they do in reality. Fox News promotes an anti-Obama agenda by altering reality to their taste.

Then they should have used subtitles; editing video in a way that affects its content is not something any credible news organization should ever do, regardless of their ideological bent,

It isn't relevant because anyone who watches Fox News probably already supports the agenda. And people who don't support Fox News aren't going to be swayed by some audio deletion of a West Point speech.

I'd put it under the category of "possible but not very likely". After all, never had to do that in the past. Unless we assume that the applause was so overwhelmingly loud for Obama that it was somehow different from the applause for other presidents in the past? More specifically, presidents usually stop talking during the applause parts to let it die down before continuing.

So the TC posts a random Youtube video that could have been created by anyone, of an Obama speech where the applause was taken out for unknown reasons, and this is a big deal? Don't the Fox News rants ever get old here?

Those are old too, but we can't control who the current president is. You can control what you watch. If clearing up background noise if a big deal to one, just don't watch the network. Be an adult, get over it, and watch something else.

Ah come on now! If MSNBC had done this to Bush we'd have two dozen threads about "teh liberal bias!" of the media within about ten minutes. Conservative posters would be screaming about conspiracies in the media. This sort of tampering is wrong no matter who does it. It's PARTICULARLY wrong by a media outfit trying to claim to be fair and balanced.

They ALL claim that and they both lean to different directions. I can't stand NBC or the like. I don't make threads crying about them being left wing. I just don't watch them or worry about it. And I certainly don't spin it as "faux" news. It's idiotic. Just don't watch it.

even though I agree with you Jim. I think I might have been desensitized to Fox News's ridiculousness because this one isn't feeling as bad to me as some of their other bs. Like Glenn Beck (yep just Glenn in general as opposed to something he actually did).

Agree to disagree then? (as usual!) To me, this is something that is particularly sensitive as a liberal because liberals are often attacked as being weak on national security issues or not having the support of the military.

It shouldn't be a big deal. They cleaned up the applause. If anything that's good for Obama's speech as you can hear it clearer. It's not like FN made his speech are garbled or muffled. They made his speech clearer. I do understand where you're coming from, but IMO this is looking for something to bash FN about. Just like the posters here that bash FN article that were written by the AP or other news networks. The blind hate on this forum for FN is completely out of control.

Wow, Pirate, you seriously are asserting that they did it to make it easier to hear him? :o I'm sorry, but editing raw video is beyond the pale, and I'd be every bit as put off if some purportedly "liberal" news outlet had done this. This is flat out bad journalism; I can't even call it journalism.

yeah they were clearly making it easier to hear obama that's why they left in the 10 second pause where the applause was...

And there is a reason that there is FN hate because they are the most biased of any news network and rarely report anything on how it actually happened it almost always has some over the top spin. I mean do you watch Glenn Beck, O'reily and actually think they aren't complete idiots???

Wow, Pirate, you seriously are asserting that they did it to make it easier to hear him? :o I'm sorry, but editing raw video is beyond the pale, and I'd be every bit as put off if some purportedly "liberal" news outlet had done this. This is flat out bad journalism; I can't even call it journalism.

I don't know what their reason was. And from your perspective (liberal) I can certainly understand where you're coming from. My point is they didn't touch his actual speech and too big a deal is being made about some applause. I disagree with the liberal spin on NBC and other networks but I don't make threads complaining about every article they come out with or any for that matter. I just don't view their channel. There are a lot of folks here that dedicate way too much time to something they claim to not like.

Is this really any different than airbrushing supermodels on magazine covers, or women wearing make-up? It's an attempt to alter reality in order to push an agenda. Happens all the time. Get over it. Move on and complain about something relevant.FragStains
...it is very different. Advertising ethics and news ethics are two different worlds.

Why would West point Graduates applaude a Foreign born Socialist leader? It makes no sense to the People at Fox news.

Darthmatt

lol. Common sense doesn't exist in some. Specifically... you.

They made his speech clearer. I do understand where you're coming from, but IMO this is looking for something to bash FN about. Just like the posters here that bash FN article that were written by the AP or other news networks. The blind hate on this forum for FN is completely out of control.

We are bashing Fox News because this is a violation of journalistic ethics. It's a perfectly valid complaint.

If they didn't present themselves as a news channel, I'd have no problem with whatever they choose to do with their content. As it is, they are approximately the right's equivalent to Michael Moore, and presenting that as news is dishonest. I'd rather say that they are practitioners of journalism

All the major news channels have heavy political leanings. I can't stand NBC or even CNN but I don't complain about their network though. That's my only point. FN didn't alter his actual speech and as for the applause, we don't know for certain what happened or why. There is only bashing based of speculation. If conservatives on this board made 100 threads a day bashing everything the liberal media swung their way, wouldn't you find that a little annoying?

First off, both the White House and Fox have horrible video players. Anyway, yeah the sound probably shouldn't be removed, but I'm not going to jump to conclusions. Oh look it was a glitch that appears multiple times in the video and not always during the applause. And gee why would they pick such a random time to do it (one applause session, literally ten seconds long, ten minutes into a half hour video)? Really if MSNBC or CNN had done this nobody would be complaining. Maybe their microphone broke, maybe somebody accidentally hit the wrong button, maybe the mic didn't pick up the applause (it wasn't exactly a rousing standing ovation). I know that nobody in the overly liberal OT will believe me and the bashing FOX, conservatives, and Republicans is a past time of the board, but ohh well.

it just looks like bad editing however you try to spin it. if their reason was simply to make the audio better or not use the cut to the cadets applauding imo it was poorly done. there's even a glitch in the video when the edit was over.

So it's not possible they took it out so he was easier to hear in the video?

Pirate700

yeah that sounds like a Fox News excuse, we were making sure everyone could hear the president over the wondrous applause he was getting

Exactly. People are going nuts over a complete non-issue that they don't even know the cause of anyway.

Even if it's "making the audio better", you cannot edit news content that results in actual content being removed. It's the same with audio as it is with video or photography. You can't lighten or darken a photograph that results in elements of the photo becoming invisible. You have to present events as they occurred.
