If you had your choice of which type of work week, which would it be.

I personally would like the 4/10 so I could have a three day weekend every week. Days spent at work already feel like there is no time to really do much afterwards, so why not stick around for another 2 hours a day and get a third day off?

I'd rather have a 4 day/ ten hour week and get Friday off. We have discussed this from time to time as a way to save money.

5, 8 hour days but I prefer shifts - I work a combination of 8-4 and 12-8 shifts (so on a 12-8 I'll get a nice lie-in!). Some of my colleagues are asking to work 4, 10 hour days but I think they'll spend all weekend recovering from such long days.

4 ten hour work days. i'd rather have an extra whole day than a couple extra hours at night each day.

I would not work effective for 12 hours, plus I would be really hungry for at least an hour or two before lunch break/end of the day, and way to often I can't work good when I hungry. 10 hours days could work, if I don't get to hungry again.

What if they threw in an extra 15 minute break? So you'd get four breaks in total: 15min, 1 hour, 15 min, 15 min. I'd do that in a heart beat if it meant a 4 day weekend.

Four ten hour days is what it is where I work. But the particular line I work on runs 24/5, so we get stuck with five eight hour days.

But anyway, I definitely prefer having 3 days off every weekend

I would take the 4 day option. However, full-time is 38 hours a week, not 40, so I would chose a 10-10-10-8 hour working week.

Two twenty hour days would be best. Failing that a forty hour two day shift, but that might be a little grueling.

I do plenty of 9 hour shifts anyway, so that extra hour is probably not even noticeable, I would rather do the 8 hour shifts, though, as then I have more to do in the evening.

No no, I wasn't implying that he couldn't. I'm just saying I'm sure most people would rather 3/12 because essentially you're working less than 5/8 or 4/10.

Some people feel they can't work for 12 hours at a time though. It can be especially grueling in the nursing profession (where it is most common) as people are on their feet for that long...there is a reason that companies make that trade off

You get one hour break at work? We get 30 minutes lunch break, and kinda 5 minutes after each hour, but my boss hate it when people use it.

Depends on the difficulty of a job.

Personally I would prefer a 5/8 because a 4/10 would probably add up to exhaustion

For my current job I get to pick my hours and days that I work. So epic win for me. The job I have is goal based, not time based so all my supervisor cares about is that the assignments get done before deadlines. He doesn't care at time I show up. I've gone weeks without seeing him, no problem. I like this type of set up. Instead of working set hours, work to complete the job at hand, nothing else.

Me too. I find once you're at work for a long shift, it's not too bad. You just accept it. Whereas a short shift, you're clock watching the entire time.

That sounds great. I always hated when you would finish all your work and then some and be kind of milling about and get the "why are you just standing there?!" from the boss hog. I could just go home because everything is done, but then you won't pay me, jackass. I'm salary now so those days are thankfully over.

That's the definition of being overwhelmed by work. :? Why would you want to work an hour less each day (which has zero impact on your day) and waste one of your days off? I don't even really notice whether I put in 8 or 10 hours a day, so if it was even possible for me to put in only a 40 hour week, I'd rather work four 10s and get an extra day off.

Less days >>>> less hours.

Having to work on any day puts you in a position of obligation, meaning you can't drink or stay up late the night before and have work around work hours.

Considering I would work near 10-hour days as a teacher anyway, I'd love the 4 day-10 hour shift schedule. Would be pretty awesome having a 3-day weekend, and on those rare occasions a 4-day weekend.

I'd tried to talk my manager into letting me work 4 day/10 hr shifts but he won't do it. It would make sense because I stay late all the time anyways and I always have to cut short that last day of the week and only work like 2 hours. Sucks to have to go all the way to work and only be there for two hours.

Definitely 4 10 hour days, since I'd rather have a whole unbothered day off then a few extra hours.

Right now I'm kind of working like 80 hours a week, so that's a bit of a dream.
