Well, title says all.
Personally, two of my favorite panned films are Push and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. With Push, I haven't seen a movie that is more flawed in a long time. However, I can also say that I haven't seen one recentlythat thrilled me more. I'm a real sucker for the supernatural, and while I say that the plot needed a LOT of cleaning up, the premise had to be one of the coolest ideas ever put through cinema. If they had more able directors and writers carry it out, it would have been truly amazing. As it is, it's just pretty damn good.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was unfairly panned, in my opinion. Sure, it was big budget and it stunk of Hollywood, but the characters were cool and the actors portraying them did a great job. It was all flash andno substance, but come ON. It's a superhero movie. If you want deep emotional storylines that connect to the core of human existance, go watch The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I'm sorry if I sound shallow for saying this, but I LIKE it when things go boom and when people use cool powers. So much that I don't care about little details that suck. This goes for Push, too. When critics pick apart movies instead of sitting back and enjoying it for what it is, they ruin the whole point of films: entertainment. Sure, some films have no redeeming value and are not at all entertaining, a la Son of the Mask, but as with Push and the League, I found that they both sucked me in and kept me VERY entertained for the full two hours.
So, what are your opinions?
