Just curious to see how many people around here actually believe got exists. I personally believe that god does but I am confused and probably always will be confused about how he just exists and has no beginning.

It's difficult for me to comprehend the idea of God not existing. Even if I was not a Christian I'd at the very least be a deist.
Either God has no beginning or matter has no beginning. Which is harder to grasp?Just curious to see how many people around here actually believe got exists. I personally believe that god does but I am confused and probably always will be confused about how he just exists and has no beginning.

To me, actually, the former is easier to grasp. I'm not saying it's not possible for a god or gods to exist, I just don't think that it/they do/does.
[QUOTE="Pirate700"]Definitely the latter which is why, even though I'm not religious, I still believe in the possibility of a god like entity. Why can't things just have always been? It's impossible for something to always have been there. You can argue that something can last forever, but it still has to start somewhere. Why can't things just have always been? Why can't God have just always been? I assume if he was in the beginning then he still is. But it's just as likely that matter always existed as God has always existed. Except that we only have proof of one currently existing at the present. Which gives matter the edge.[QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]Definitely the latter which is why, even though I'm not religious, I still believe in the possibility of a god like entity.

Nobody's saying God could not have just always been. However, his point simply was that, rather than a god creating everything, and itself having always existed, maybe the universe has simply always existed.

You do realize that that exact same logic could be applied to God?

There is a WHOLE LOT of questions that currently have no answers. How can something exist if it never started? Who knows, but I have an easier time believing some higher being has the ability of such things over physical matter.[QUOTE="Jandurin"] Why can't things just have always been?Jandurin

Again, yes I do which is why it's so deep. If God created everything, then what created God?"Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. That we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."

Oh, alright, sorry. I thought you were arguing that God must exist. My bad ;).
:P It's cool. But yeah, weather or not there is a god, I always subscribe to the fact there everything that exists had to have began. So if there is a god, then who created him/it and who created that, and so on and so forth. And even at the very beginning of that, there would still have to be something to begin THAT process. It's a never ending cycle.Which is why I don't bother thinking about it much. Not much to be gained from something you absolutely won't know until you die. :PAnd even at the very beginning of that, there would still have to be something to begin THAT process. It's just when you think about reversing a cycle that has to have a beginning, with a beginning to that also, it almost makes one's head explode. :lol:And even at the very beginning of that, there would still have to be something to begin THAT process. I do often wonder who/what/how GOD was created. it's hard to think that while everything else that we know that exists has/had a beginning/creation, but we are taught that GOD always has been.
I've got to say this is the best thread about this I have seen so far with the most reasonable answers overall.
I also think it is possible the universe has always existed and also don't discount the idea of a god-type entity. Just in no way shape or form a god of religion.
