It is thoeretically possible to travel forward in time, as, much like the gravitational slowdown mentioned above, the faster you go, the slower time gets. Once you reach the speed of light, time stops and your mass (not weight, poor misconception) becomes infinate. If a ship reaches the speed of light, you spin it at a very fast rate to twist the spacetime continuum and crazy magic happens. Obviously I don't understand it, but that is essentially how it works. Speed of light + spinning very fast = time travel. Apparently you've 'just' got to create a gap in the fabric of spacetime and manipulate it. Obviously easier said than done, but the science is there, even if the technology isn't.
Unfortunately, it seemsbackward time travel is impossible with the current laws of physics, but they are subject to change, and Einsteins Theory of Relativity may yet be proven wrong, or in the least, flawed.
EDIT: In reply to the 'why haven't we seen someone from the future' scenario, have you not considered that we understand the fact that interference would be catastrophic? A ship that is capable of time travel is likely to have cloaking technology, or some other technology we can't even comprehend yet. Not to mention the fact that any would be time traveller isn't going to wander the streets declaring to the past that he is from the future and that everyone should ignore him and get on with things....Subtlety is the key here.
