Im canadian and I sort of have a canadian accent, I talk like ricky from Trailer Park Boys lol.Helbrec
Well worst case Ontario, as long as you have your grade 10 you should be all set....
You were taught wrong. Dead wrong. :|I've always been taught that accents are for the less advanced people who are unable or unwilling to talk correctly.
Since I started speaking I was taught to say everything correctly and not have any sort of regional dialect.

No I wasn't
There's a right way to speak and then there's a wrong way
I do it correctly and feel sorry for those who don't hold themselves to the same standard. Unfortunately you run into many and I just hope they all can take my and others advice when we speak so they may speak correctly as well.

I don't allow my position in the country to change the way I speak and that's wrong?
What's next?
Let's not stop at language, let's also do math
On the East coast 2 + 2 = 4
On the West coast we'll have 2 + 2 = 5
That's just as ridiculous

By your logic, all UKers are idiots (they don't speak dictionary correct), Most Americans outside of the immediate west coast states and any other English speaking nation. There sure are a lot of "un-advanced" idiots out there then. :roll:By your logic, all UKers are idiots (they don't speak dictionary correct), Most Americans outside of the immediate west coast states and any other English speaking nation. I'm only talking about the United States
As for the rest yes, everywhere in the US follows the same language that is intended to spoken one certain way.
It's not difficult, we even sell books that show people how to say the words. There is no excuse for parents not to teach their children correctly from the day they're born.

I like mine. As soon as I open my mouth most people know where Im from.Big_Bad_Sad

You're not familiar with a dictionary?
They made a handbook to teach people this, you can get it almost anywhere.
Parents don't need to scour their local cities and towns for this tool.
the liverpool fc pic not a big enough clue? and if you ask me scouse isnt as recognisable as a proper full on geordie accent.
and i speak with no accent
[QUOTE="Pirate700"][QUOTE="Witchsight"] Yeah, ok. You must not know a lot aboot accents. Lol it makes them sound scottish when they say that.Im Canadian so i dont have one.

I'm Canadian and have never heard anyone pronounce "about" as "aboot". I'm guessing neither of you have been to Canada, your only education on the matter is probably from watching South Park. Remember kids not all stereotypes are true, in fact most of them are indeed false.
I had a strong southern drawl, but when I moved to Austin, no one spoke like that. I watched and repeated what was said on television over and over again until I finally dropped my accent. It still comes out when I'm angry or excited, though.
It's true that accents affect how people view you. Take Jasonguy for example.

Actually I have met a ton of Canadians as well as one of my teachers being from there. They ALL said aboot and every other stereotypical Canadian accent.[QUOTE="Big_Bad_Sad"]I like mine. As soon as I open my mouth most people know where Im from.MrCycleCancel

It might not be as strong as the Geordie accent, but it is easily recognised.
this is what the most distinct accent is if you ask me, not the best example most people speak alot more stronger than that

They ALL said aboot and every other stereotypical Canadian accent.Well they must all be from the maritimes then, they have a completely different accent than the rest of Canada, and somewhere along the way the people started calling the "maritime accent" the Canadian accent. That's like saying all of America has a Boston accent, which of course is false.
