The evidence seems to suggest both, so i leave it to you. Do violent videogames make people violent?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I always find this argument quite absurd, apparently games are the debil but violent movies are not. One looks more realistic, one gives us some control over what happens. If someone ends up going on a rampage a game didn't set it off, this person already had deep mental problems or they ended up snapping for some reason.
if the people playing the violent games aren't capable of being independent outside of video games.. then yes. otherwise, no.
Not in the least. I've been playing violent video games all of my life and I've only killed a handful of people.
No. How the person is raised determines whether they become violent or not. If your parents taught you why you shouldn't be violent, and not just what you shouldn't do but WHY as well, then there is no reason for the person to become violent unless due psycological condition. Its the way someone is raised, not videogames which make one violent.
No, lol, that's stupid. I don't know who came up with that, but it sure is ridiculous. I laugh whenever I hear it.It seems that most of the people who use this excuse know little to nothing about the games they are accusing in the first place anyway.Ever think the violent nature came before the game and these people may be just playing out their fantasies by playing the game? Or maybe, it totally unrelated to the game and they just happened to be both violent and like the game (most likely).
More likely that violent people play violent video games. Not to say that all people who play violent video games are violent, of course.chessmaster1989Yeah, I agree. A violent person is likely going to take interests in inherently violent things. As opposed to a person whom has no violent tendencies suddenly developing them after playing Call of Duty.
Also there was that mother who killed here baby over Farmville, so it's more because of the individual
ZIVX
Because FarmVille is extremely violent.
considering how many people play video games, and how few of those people are violent enough to warrant concern...no, I'd say video games do not make people violent.
I would go so far as to argue video games make people less violent, provided they are played in context and by appropriate age groups. To me, video games are an outlet...I know that if I take my Baseball Bat + 2 and bash my neighbor's head in because I think he is an Ogre, bad things will happen to him, me, and everyone that cares about us.
No.
And why the hell do so many people think "video games" is one word? It's not "videogames"! It's "video games"!
No. If they did, I would probably be a serial killer by now.
