I was going to drive to school last week but I was told I need a parking pass. If you do not have one you can get towed which costs hundreds of dollars as the school makes you pay for the expense. The parking pass is $100. My school's parking area is HUGE. We have four parking lots and one of them is always empty. Did any of you guys have to deal with this crap?

Yeah it was like $80. I don't see how having to pay for parking is a big deal. It helps give the school money and you can always park outside of the school if you don't want to pay it.

Nope, but I had to at Uni, as there weren't many spaces and a lot of people wanted to park there.

Can't blame your school for wanting free money though.

There's one at my school, only the kids who drive to school in the first month usually pay, after that, other kids just sneak their cars in (including me)

Considering that almost all highschools in my city have a dirt patch for student parking (it may have been properly paved at one time, but it's not now), I'd have been furious if I'd had to pay for that. I quit and did homeschooling before I got a license, so even if there was a charge I wouldn't have had to pay it.

Yes, but in high school it was only like $25.

A parking pass for university, on the other hand, was $200. I just parked nearby and walked.

I know that in high school the parking pass was part of the "school fee" which included your locker/parking pass/year book or whatever else. In Uni it's outrageously expensive here though because it's downtown Toronto and parking is just ridiculous, put simply lol.

Nothing legal, no.

I remember in high school, students used to park in this church parking lot across the street. Mostly because our parking lot was fairly small and no one wanted to pay the $100. But the school later caught on. They said if you're caught parking in the church parking lot, you got suspended.

Technically it wasn't the school's call so students parked there anyways and called the school's bluff. A year later the church parking lot was officially the school's parking lot. I just parked at a friend's place who lived close to school and walked from there.

My point is, there are ways around those parking passes.

Yeah I think it cost $50 or something my senior year. I lived less than a mile away from school though so I didn't get one and walked instead. I was probably home before I would've been out of the parking lot because from what I could tell it was hell to get out of there.

I think they did charge people for parking passes, but they were too cheap to actually tow. Either that or the small as parking lot we had was so full, tow trucks couldn't get in. I forget. But they were cheap about how the whole system operated anyway. They had security guards outside in the parking lot letting people in or turning them away depending on their parking pass situation. The "guards" were always out there at 6:45 in the mornings. Made it kind of easy to get a parking spot when i got there around 6:30. I always had a spot right in the front area of the lot.

I don't think so, but I never used my school's parking lot. We had a community gym/swimming pool right next my school, and since it was closer to my house than my school, I just parked there all the time.

Most people don't park in our parking lot, just on the street but sometimes they block of the sides of the street so kids have to park farther away to encourage them to get parking passes.

yeah. but there were always an excess amount of parking spots, so some people wouldn't buy one but they would park at the very back, and wouldn't get in trouble. i bought one though, cause i didn't feel like having to walk for several minutes to get from my parking spot to the school.

Yup. When my brother bought his, they were $25, which is reasonable, but the next year they upped the price to $40 and then $50 my senior year. The high schools around us had passes for less than $10. >___>

I wish it was that short of a wait back when I was in HS. We had to wait 45mins to an hour to get out of the lot. It was a zoo.

My parking pass was $10, adn there is nowhere surrounding that you could park your car because my school is completely surrounded by forest and gated private propery with one single road leading out to the main road.

No. Parking was free in HS.

On top of that, I didn't have access to a car, I didn't have my licence, school was walking distance from my house, and the school board paid for my bus pass.

Yes I did, it was about $80 for the entire year, a steal compared to what I'm paying for parking at college. For my parking in the garage it costs me $400 a year to park there.

I don't drive, but my friends don't have to pay. Maybe they will charge in the future, but at the moment it is free....although we are running out of space in the parking lot.

How exactly is it illegal to park anywhere where there's a space? Is there an actual sign that says something along the lines of "parking here while going to class is illegal." I understand that you can't park on neighborhood roads because then the people that live there can't park, but I see no reason for you not to be allowed to use a public parking lot.

My high school offers free parking, and there's only one parking lot.
