Dear god what is happening to the world?

The other day i walked into gamestop to buy GTA4 and he asked me if the person that was buying it for me was my mom and i said no its my aunt and he told me that my mom or dad has to be with me, not another relative, i asked him why i had to have my mom or dad with me and told me that gamestop employees cannot sell M games without theyre parent with the kid and that they're trying to pass a legislative law against even letting kids buy M games with theyre parents or not and that it will be a felony.

I swear to god its those stupid soccer moms that dont want theyre kids to grow up around violent things, why would someone take a video game so seriously as to oh i dont know, shoot up a school? if this law passes before resident evil 5 comes out, ill be pissed. yes i am very aware that i could say that my aunt is my mom but we didnt know about this crap.

I must disagree. People mature at different ages. If your parents/gaurdian seems to think that you are mature enough for GTA4, then you should be able to buy it. I mean you dont see them cutting out Rated R movies from TV if the household happens to have a member under 16 (or is it 18?) :?

Now try finding out a 14 year old girl (She is my moms friends daughter) had to run in the middle of a campground because she was being approached by guys on bikes in a dark street. I am very certain they may have tried to sexually assault her had she not gotten away.

I also have a friend whos friend got shot in the back of the head on the 4th of July. Best part is, the guy had a 1 month old kid.....

go to another gamestore, make youre aunt walk in and buy it without you even there

or lie and say shes youre mom.. this is a very easy situation to overcome my friend

You'll live. It's actually a good thing that retailers are putting tighter restrictions on M rated games. It gives the misinformed anti-videogame critics less of a reason to be irrational. for real! If they wanna do this then i think it should be like so across all mediums of art. So kids under the age of 18 can no longer go to museums that have artworks that depict violence or nudity or profanity. Censoring art is not the governments job, its the households. If kids play GTAIV and go and shoot up people, dont blame Rockstar, blame the parents who should have used a condom.

Its not the annoyance of not getting the game, its just the stupidity of some people.

Yeah, giving an AO rating essentially means that nobody can play it. Not allowing anyone under 17 (US) buy an M game is perfectly reasonable and would help parents a little bit. Still, they need to step up to the plate and monitor what their children play whenever possible.

I'm 18 by the way.
