shame, shame, shame, shame on fools... wasting good watermelon like that 25%

So last night I was watching a bit of Anthony Bourdain's "Part's Unknown" on CNN and he was in Gaza, showing a recipe that people in Southern Gaza and the Sinai use but most people in Gaza City and Northern Gaza do not. Basically it's these small "baby" watermelons that they rap in aluminum foil and roast on a fire-pit in the sand. Then the mash it up along and mix it with other ingredients on a big plate and make like a hummus with it.

Have any of you guys heard of this or something similar? Do you think it would be good or just a waste of a good watermelon? At first (when they were showing them cooking the watermelon) the idea seemed strange to me, but Bourdain seemed to like the food when it was done. Maybe it has a nice, refreshing flavor to it.

Fruit can be roasted. Not sure how well watermelon would turn out, given how it's essentially water and fibre.

No but I would try it depending on the other ingredients of course.

Yeah. My initial reaction is, "why?", but cooked fruit almost always surprises me with how well it turns out. I'd certainly give it a shot.

I enjoyed that episode when I first saw it in 2014 and I finished watching it again, a moment ago. That was the first time I learned about preparing watermelons by grilling them. I would definitely taste it with the right opportunity.

Pretty much. Apples are probably good roasted, but watermelon? How much of the actual fruit would be left after roasting it? Probably not much.
