Am I the only one who thinks that Cloverfield has a striking resemblance to Half-Life?

I just saw the movie on Saturday, and I did enjoy it. However, throughout several parts of the film I remember thinking to myself, "This feels just like Half-Life." I don't know if it was because of the first person element in the film or what. I felt the resemblance the strongest during the subway and helicopter sequences. I think it might have been because the movie gave the viewers the impression that everything is alright, then things change drastically (that requently happens during Half-Life). The crooked building part felt a lot like doing one of the physics puzzles in the game. Did anyone else feel this way about the movie? Reguardless of how good or bad the film was.

Funny, because, I thought it too! right after I saw the cloverfield film. I started thinking of what a Half Life movie would be like, and what would be in it. LOL

There were alot of moments in the movie that resembled scenes from videogames. Especially the subway scene.

i know what you mean. they are in a subway where its pitch black and the only thing emitting light is the camera, sounds a lot like HL:EP1. it would be funny if we found out that the crew were gamers.

JJ Abrams is a fan of Half-Life. He often references the game in "Lost", and in Half-Life 2 Valve even referenced Lost.

He does? Can you give examples? I've never, ever noticed. BTW, JJ Abrams only produced Cloverfield and wasn't involved with the script or the direction...

In Episode 2 there's a computer in the White Forest station that has the numbers displayed on it. There's also a ball somewhere that has a Dharma logo on it, I never found it though. As for Half life references on Lost, i've seen every episode and can't seem to remember anything that had to do with Half Life. Then again, I didn't play a Half Life game until the end of 2006.

In Half-life 2, there is a dharma logo, and the numbers can be found in one of the computer screen.
I don't know about HL2 references in Lost itself. EDIT: Scratch that. I completely forgot about this

Thanks; I certainly wouldn't characterize one instance as "often", but still a neat callback.

the huge monster really looks like a boss fight, you have to kill all the little aliens first then you get to the big boss

srsly though, there are only so many places you can go in a movie, of course its going to resemble something you have seen before
