The Ukrainian Army's most recent attempt to subordinate the breakaway provinces of Donetsk and Lugansk to the NATO puppet regime in Kiev have failed spectacularly.

Their attacks on the Donetsk airport (which the separatists secured for the Donetsk People's Republic last week) were repelled and the strategic and symbolic site remains in the hands of the separatists.

Worse still (for the Ukrainians), the separatists have captured a Ukrainian brigade commander! He is Oleg Mikats, commander of the 93rd brigade, and his capture is seen in this video. (He's the bald guy with black shirt.)

To put all this in context, bear in mind that Obama and the EU have poured billions of dollars into Ukraine, supposedly so that the Ukrainian Army can pacify the breakaway provinces and recapture Crimea. And this is the result so far! If they can't capture a ruined airport in Donetsk, then how the hell are they going to take Crimea?!

I don't think anyone in his right mind would expect any amount of support to the Ukraine, or what's left of it, would help recapture Crimea. You'd have no choice but to wage an all-out war on Russia for that end and considering that the Ukraine is largely a proxy and the stage for Western-Russian bickering, it is unlikely that any interested party in the west, be it NATO or the U.S, is willing to start WWIII just yet. Some may have some hopes that the destabilization of the region and proxy wars employing rebel groups and guerrilla factions routine may force the Russians out but I believe the Russians have already drawn a red-line on Crimea so they wouldn't have a problem leveling it and any potential rebel stronghold in its vicinity to the ground should the need call for it.

The Ukraine as has been expected for a while now is bound to disintegrate into minuscule cantons, some of which will have Russian affiliation while others would have EU/NATO backing. The end result: what happened in the Ukraine serves anyone but the Ukraine. That would be the most advantageous end scenario for the region as a whole. A much worse scenario could happen which is for the destabilization to spread to other fragile eastern European states at which point the EU should start to seriously worry.
