Captain Planet is getting his own live-action movie debut — which means we're getting a blue, mostly-shirtless superhero who sports a bright red caplet, hot pants, boots and a green mullet. SOLD.

According to Kidscreen, Cartoon Network has inked a deal with Transformers producer Don Murphy to make a Captain Planet movie.

Murphy, who worked on ALL of the Transformers films, now has the exclusive rights to the property, and can develop and package Captain Planet and the Planeteers as they see fit. Which could really go a variety of directions, can't it? And they don't just want one Captain Planet film — hopes are for this to become a series.

Sucks for whoever has to play Ma-Ti — because the power of heart? Not unless you get to ride a sleigh of lions wearing a meat dress, pal. Also we demand that Gaia have streaks. But seriously, this is fantastic news all around. We've included the theme song at the bottom, in case you weren't already singing it with joy.

their ruining our childhood memories!

If you're going to ruin my childhood, at least pick a better superhero. Captain Planet gets a speck of oil on his cheek and he's down for the count.

Oh god no, one of the most overrated shows ever gets a movie that will likely suck.

Damn you Hollywood.

The question is why? Captain Planet is without a doubt the lamest idea for a superhero. Ever. If he can grow weak from garbage and a few mudballs of sludge, do I really want him to protect us?

I gotta say, it's getting pretty damn sad. just how much of a dearth of imagination is left in Hollywood, that they are running for whatever IP franchise that hasn't gotten it's own movie yet.

I mean todays new cartoons are not even all that good, they seem to lack a sort of creative spark that they old shows had. I'd like to be proven wrong. but still....

Mullet in the 2000s? that's just wrong. The concept seems interesting but I can see it develop the same way DragonBall Evolution did.

Hated it as a kid, still hate it now. I'm just not 'awed' by a superhero who comes alive when five people put their rings together. I mean what if one of the rings breaks? then your out of luck

I think all of these revivals of old things just shows how little of an imagination Hollywood has.

Sorry, I don't believe we're being bad to the earth.

And I won't see this movie because when I went back and watched the TV show a few years back, it was nothing but demonizing business and spreading propaganda. That's all this movie will be.

Earth doesn't run on magic.

I think it's completely non-sensical to believe we don't affect the planet in any manner. And if you do, if not bad then in what way are we?

Captain Planet? Really? Is Hollywood that desperate that they have to make a movie of the worst superhero ever? Come on, all you have to do is shoot one of the kids with the rings (the one with the "power" of heart would be the easiest to go after) and you win, no more Captain Planet.

While this is definitely a stupid idea, I have to say that the whole "ruining my childhood" thing is sort of getting out of hand.

I mean, we're talking about Captain Planet here. Captain Planet was ALWAYS lame as hell. Especially for dumb little kids who just want to see superheroes kick ass. I mean, you can watch the Transformers kick ass throughout the entire episode, while Captain Planet's plotlines always involved PREVENTING Captain Planet from kicking ass by coming up with some way to keep those dumbass kidfrom putting their rings together.

Oh God no. Please no. That's an even worse idea than my comic series. That's freaking awful. I bet they'll make the movie only come on in the movies on days and times when no one has anything to do or watch. Just like what they did with the cartoon series on TV.
