can someone explain to me why port forwarding has to be a pain all the time?

i know how to set it up... but it seems like it only works temporarily. lets say a day or two. I use utorrent, and its NOT on random ports. i have it set for one port always. Even though i look at my router and it has a certain port open, I do a speed test/ port checker thing thats on it and it seems like I have to constantly re enter the same information over and over even if its already there. I have to add the same service over again with a new name... its quite annoying.

Whenever I'm done, I close the port... and then reopen it when I need to. I've never needed to remove or recreate the service.

Do you set up a static IP address in windows first?

Under Firewall Rules, you can enable/ disable it. I'm not sure about whether it matters of not. I just assumed that leaving a port open wasn't a great idea.

well i apparently got it to work this time, i just entered in the ip address it already had and changed the profile... i dont understand why it wouldnt be on the default one because i told it to. but my router is a shady westell so i dont know. my other westell router did a similar thing just not as frequent.

i know how to port forward, its just how it seemingly resets its self after a day or so that I find to be annoying.

apparently my router switched profiles or something, when I never told it to. I have like 4 of them, I accidently made one once but never "used it".

1. I dont know why it would come with 4 profiles by default when youll only ever practically need one

2. I dont know why it wouldnt goto the one I use all the time, instead it decides for me? what the hell.
