I'm just curious. I celebrate it but wonder if the separation of the 13 colonies from Great Brittain was meaningless and stupid. Should I be saluting a Brittish flag today or was it a good thing that the colonies separated.

Played some AC3 to celebrate. Now off to Nashville TN!

I've never heard of anybody ever mention 4th of July here, nobody in the UK celebrates it, besides the American immigrants of course.

4th of July is an American celebration, it has nothing to do with Britain.insanegame377

Besides the fact that it's a celebration of the day Americans gained independence from Britain.

I've been told (not sure if English propaganda) they sent the social rejects to attack America - not the official superior royal military.

I love the 4th of July. I'll go through my usual elaborate rituals to celebrate the day we commited treason against our English King, and try to ignore the fact that we later made treason a crime in our Constitution.

I think calling it a celebration is a disgrace.. it should be a commemoration for all those who died and their families who suffered. War shouldn't be celebrated.

Yeah I know, but people don't use it to commemorate those that gave their lives.. it's usually a chance to get drunk, set off fire works and act like idiots.. but then so are most holidays.

when I was stationed in England (U.S. Air Force) I originally thought that lame holiday had something to do with boxing matches, I got a great laugh when I realized the lazy Brits celebrate a day after Christmas to box things up!

 Independence Day isn't about the war. The war didn't end until much later. It is about the day that we declared our independence. It has nothing to do with war.

Boxing Day is not a day to box things up and it never has been.

In the past it was the day people gave food and money to the needy. In Rome (I think) it was a day were slave owners would switch roles with their slave or give them the day to go visit their families and give them presents and food for their families.

Now it's just another day off work with sport on TV, just like thanksgiving in the US.

I'm a Brit and i care about it, reason being is because IT'S MY BIRTHDAY :D, sadly i live here in Britain and not America :(. I love America with a passion, hell, i even have two American flags, one my American sweet heart got me (for my outside pole, cotton made), the other i got that's poly something, it's Valley Forge made and i have it in my room. My whole family, even my buddies at work know i love America more than Britain and they all know i want to move, live and work in America one day. Sometimes i feel i was born in the wrong country. I have no love for Britain, my heart loves America, i love how America respects its flag, the military, its freedom, free speech and i love how you get the kids to make the pledge to the flag, we don't even do that over here in Britain. America is different and i love it and i just feel like i would be happy there than i am here. Not to mention, i was born on an American day, an important American day. My buddies and family don't understand why i want to live and be an American, but i have my reasons. Sometimes i do wish America was still apart of us and i do wish we Brits never treated America so badly. If we treated them with respect and didn't bully them, maybe the would still be with us to this very day.But i'm still happy that America is free from us because the way Britain is today and has been since i can remember, i wouldn't be surprised if any country connected to us would want to break away. Even Scotland want to break away from us and i honestly don't blame them. England is weak, its corrupt and our government are cowards. We are not even free and our rights are been taken away from us. Most Brits want out the EU, they want change but it just takes one guy, one party to say no and its that person, that party we voted in to lead us. I would like to be happy and proud of my country, i would like to love my country with pride, i don't want to love another country more than my own, but i do because i just feel America is a country that allows and offers more freedom, joy and a better life than Britain does. Not every Brit will agree with what i said, but they should remember Britain is divided and what effects us in one part of the country wont effect them in the other
