Most of mine are very early eighties:
Tubeway Army, Joy Divison, The Clash, David Bowie, Devo, The Smiths, The Cure

This is the best alternative band.[QUOTE="anDy-PeNGuiN"]
PIXIES

Agreed. It's hard to imagine a better album than Doolittle.
The Cure... The Smiths... The Pixies... Megadeth...The Pogues... Joy Division... New Order...Depeche Mode... The Melvins... Sonic Youth... Husker Du... Echo and the Bunnymen.
My favorite 80s rock band was probably the Scorpions.
My favorite 80s metal bands are Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, and Armored Saint.
The Smiths make The Cure look silly with awesomeness. Though The Cure aren't terrible, either.clembo1990
If anything, I think Morrisey made himself and The Smiths insecure and silly in comparison with The Cure, what with his constant slandering of The Cure back in the 80's..

Oh yeah! Forgot about that debarkle. The music is still better, though. They sure could write some brilliantly poetic songs, something The Cure, I never felt, did or at least tried to do. It didn't hurt that the lead guitarist is second only to Lord Jimi himself.Oh yeah! Forgot about that debarkle. The music is still better, though. You might be overrating them a bit there.Johnny Marr was great, but not to that level... have you never listened to Disintegration or Pornography or Faith?
Woo, the 80s, the best years for music and the worst for fashion. =P I'd say Metallica(before Cliff Burton died and they went terrible), Megadeth(Even though my favorite album by them was from like 1992), Guns N' Roses(Chinese Democracy isn't GNR, Axl doesn't even sound like Axl even though it's sorta understandable after 15 years...D'=) or old-school Pantera, not too sure. Pantera's old stuff is awesome, don't listen to their singer who says they started off in 1990, they actually started in 1981 and had 4 less heavy albums, the first two of which are like Motley Crue and the other two of whom aren't really heavy. =)

NIN. Still kicking ass.The first NIN album came out in 89... I say that counts. :)

I would defiantely say... The Cure, or Depeche mode... it's a close one..

both fantastic bands, add the Smiths into that mix.

You could say they were yeah..Iron Maiden, due to the fact that they're the greatest band ever.Bloodaxe726But they're 70s...XD Then again, I guess they do count...*not really fond of any of their stuff except The Trooper because I can't find any differences in their music and I find Run To The Hills and Number Of The Beast to be overrated as poop*
