I ask this as a fan of zombies in any form of media. I love a good zombie movie, but recently I've realized that there isnt much that has been done with them. The only change I can think of of is having them run and in the case of Return of the Living Dead, talk. The best zombie movies seem to be more about the humans which is interesting but it also highlights how dull zombies can be after a while. They haven't evolved in years. I think more has been done with Vampires than zombies. There are much better Vampire movies than zombie movies.

It's a shame since I like zombies but what can really be done with zombies to make them more interesting?

Wouldn't mind a back to basics zombie film. Dead c*nts with a vengeance. Not a virus. Not a disease. Not an infection. The rising of the dead, motherf*ckers.

Yes they have. I really don't get the sudden obsession with them. I also don't like how zombies have evolved as of late.

The Zombie fad is quite annoying. So much of the same thing. Also, I like how every game must have a zombie mode. Its quite retarded.

they are popular because they are the most "interactive" of the movie monsters.

nobody asks what you would do if a vampire came after you you would just run (or nail them or laugh at them depending on how sparkly they are).

with zombies people come up with elaborate plans to live through the zom onslaught and it is that interactivity that makes them popular.

i don't see that losing popularity any time soon because people like to pretend they are in situations and play the game of thinking their way out of it.

theyve been old for a long time. they bite and they shuffle or run. storytellers try to make them represent us in different ways but the zombies never change. its like the weekend at bernies of allegories.

Be nice if they took a more serious approach, like the pilot of 'The Walking Dead', and stopped all trying to be 'Shaun of the Dead'.

Classic zombie films like Night of the living dead and dawn of the dead are more about them being locked up together, the zombies don't actually get that much screen time. Similar thing with good modern zombie films such as 28 days later. It's mostly them exploring England, they don't see or kill that many zombies.

Zombies are a good plot device but I'd like to see some more original scenarios to put the characters in.

I like when zombie stories are told in a sort of satirical fashion, like Shaun of the Dead or that book Breathers, of which I forgot the author.

A vampire movie would be legit. Not that sparkly vampire crap, I mean something on the lines like Dracula or even Blade.

In a way, I agree that they're getting old but I still like to see more movies about zombies. I personally like to see a videogame that focuses on open world survival and zombies. Now that would be an awesome concept. I wonder why no one has done that yet.

It's definitely a pretty stagnant concept, but I think I'll always have a soft spot for seeing zombies get slaughtered. There's the occasional treat that comes along and breathes a bit of new life into it, too. Hope that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies film actually sees the light of day. :P

They are maybe a bit played out, but it is nothing new, they have been a mainstay in popular culture for 20 years. The only difference I see now is comedy films with zombies and television shows

I don't get how zombies changed from people raised from the dead to alive people infected with some kind of disease. That just seems dumb. Almost as stupid as vampires who can only be killed by decapitation, sunlight, or a stake being changed to sparkly romantic vampires who can only be killed by fire.

I think that zombies just get used too much for the sake of showing zombies rather than because the theme/point of the story specifically lends itself to zombies. Basically, it's like...many of these iconic movie monsters have some sort of innate quality which is supposed to say something about humanity. There's a whole sexual thing going on with vampires. Zombies are mindless conformists. The unity of the zombie horde also provides a stark contrast against the conflicts and breakdown of the group of human survivors, and watching the human survivors fight amongst themselves usually hits one over the head with the message that "the real enemy is ourselves" (or something like that). Werewolves and the Hulk exaggerate one of mankind's dualities, and comment on our propensity for rage and savagery. And then aliens are just...aliens. Everyone's afraid of being invaded. The thing is, you've gotta pick the right monster for the story. And I guess too often zombies aren't really required for the story, they're just there because whoever made the movie/videogame/whatever just thinks that zombies are cool. And it just ends up coming off as sort of lame. Alternatively, it seems that so much zombie media seems to repeat the same themes. Which...sort of is almost a necessity since they're still using zombies. Even if zombies are appropriate to the themes of the story, the fact is that such themes have been utilized in zombie stories for so long that everything STILL ends up seeming old and lame. So zombies sort of have two things going against them. They're so blatantly symbolic that it seems hokey to use them in the wrong kind of story. But if you use them in the right kind of story, the problem is that people have been doing that for so long that YOUR efforts are just going to probably end up looking old and cliched. So let me propose something: rather than finding a new use for zombies, maybe people should just stop using zombies unless they have a REALLY good idea. Use some other monster, sure. Even better, create a new monster. I mean, the people who made Alien could have used a space werewolf or a space zombie or something. But they created a new monster which worked perfectly with their movie, and that's at least part of the difference between a classic and a forgettable movie that no one remembers after 6 months. But then once they started making more Alien movies just to show more of the Aliens, it just became the equivalent of another run-of-the-mill werewolf or zombie movie. I personally just think that unless someone has a REALLY good new and original idea for using zombies, that people need to give zombies a rest for a while. Hang that $*** up in the closet, maybe come back in 10 years and see if it's worth revisiting. But for now...just stop.

The zombie stories I follow are The Walking Dead, Highschool Of The Dead, I just started to recently read World War Z, and if there's a video game coming out with an interesting concept on zombies, I'll take notice.

Yes, and very over saturated in every industry.

zombie_max_beauty-640.jpg

And I'm sick to death of the "realistic" zombies that are not realistic.

The its a virus, then proceed to ignore every other law of biology.(like the need for food & water)

If you are going realistic go all the way in, like 28 days later(if they are not living dead then they die off after so long)

Why is it so taboo to have witchcraft zombies now a days (you know, actual walking dead!)

You could argue this for the first month, but after the population disapears(like Walking Dead) then the zombies would start dropping like flies,

and be actual corpses in a weeks time.

This is the stupidest most annoying fad I have ever seen in my life. What the #$!% is so special about zombies? They are essentially slow moving humans with no depth in any way. How has this mindless crap made its way into every game, movie, gun store, book, magazine, etc? At least vampires had some lore based around them, not that it was much better. The saddest part is just sitting back and watching the various industries milk every penny out of these people who worship zombies. They will go out and buy what would otherwise be terrible games and movies, just because there are zombies in it. Like are we really going to pretend dead rising or dead island are good games? Next year there will be a zombie twilight style chick flick coming out as well. It is sad, it is lame, and it is @%^!ting up my media. KNOCK IT OFF!

to be fair vampires give people more to work with since they can actually have personalities. Personally I like zombies, but they do seem to be oversaturated at them moment.

zombies, vampires, way too overdone.

why do people feel the need to bump topics from 4 months ago?
