George Carlin was a funny man and some of what he said did make sense.

What he says may not pertain to you but there are people who do exist that match what George Carlin describes.

There is some logic in his jokes.

Like his viewpoint about how some people think their family is watching them in heaven.

But I also like his comedy acts that aren't religious.

keech

It makes sense to you..not me. GC is nothing more than a comedian.

It not making sense to you is irrelevant. Reality doesn't care if it make sense to you or not. What IS will always be regardless of ones capacity to understand or make sense of it. The reality is their ARE people out there like the ones GC made fun of in his stand up....a lot of them. If you haven't met people like this yourself, consider yourself very lucky.

What are you babbling about?! What is relevant is in the eye of the beholder. It is VERY relevant to me what makes sense and does not. Explain to me what is reality then.

But the eye of the beholder is all based on ones perception. Ones perception is always in a state of flux.

Example: You see an open can of soda. Just by looking at this can of soda, you have no way of knowing for certain if it's empty or has soda in it. REALITY does not care if you think it's full or empty. You thinking it's full will not make it full, you thinking it's empty will not make it empty. If it's empty it will always be empty no matter how strongly you believe it's full. If you believe it to be full, then you lift the can to find that it's empty, your perception changes. You now KNOW it's empty.

Agnostic Theist, so religious in this case.

I don't see how people can say that athiesm is the more 'logical' answer.

Either you believe that some form of Creator/God created everything (or at the minimum started the Big Bang and everything came together after that).
Or that nothing was floating around in nothing, then at some point at this nothing came together and created something. Huh. A bit sarcastic admittedly but you get the jist.

But I'm bias towards theism, so I'm sure somebody can give me a sarcastic 'God created everything' response.

People think logic is the same thing as empiricism. "Hey, if I say 'logical' a lot, even if I'm totally misuing the term, it'll make me look real educated!"

There are other scientific theories out there.

Why can't an atheist believe the Universe was always here in some form.

The theory you were referring to was about a small singularity that existed in a form of energy which needs no time or space and that energy eventually expanded creating space and time and created matter.

It a really complicated theory which is only easily explained with math so the uneducated will have a hard time understanding it.

But Atheism doesn't advocate for any particular belief system on how the universe was created. The only thing that ties all atheist together is that they "dis"belief in god.

There are other theories out there for how the universe began or if it ever began and an Atheist can hold a position in one of those many.

Neither

I believe there is a higher intelligence type of entity that created everything we feel & experience today. The greatest gift given to us is to be conscious of ourselves and of the fact that we are all the same with everything in it's creations as small pixels of a grander picture since we all come from this,.... this creative being which many have attributed the name 'God' to without the 'fatherly' image and is where we will return to when we die. And so i feel no necessity to be a part of any kind of cult/sect like Chritianity/Islam etc to express any kind of acknowledgement of a greater force and it certainly doesn't require it of me.

I am neither, For i am Non-Religious. Being Athiest is a religion in itself (in a sense) Because to be an atheist, you must believe that there is no god, or greater power. Although it is not formulated like any and all other religions it still serves as such. I am non-religious and can believe what ever i feel. The sky is purple, You crazy people think its blue. No. Atheism is by its very definition, a lack of belief.

What atheism is NOT:believing that there is no God.

What atheism is: not believing that there is a God.

Atheism is not a religion. It is a rejection of religion.

no, just that no matter how far back you trace things there is no proof against god, in fact it makes much more sense that something created us then us being created out of thin air.dragonfly110

Instead you believe a super advanced creator came from thin air?

Teh_Can

I always found it funny that some religious people say it's weird to think we come from pond scum (which is not how science says it)

Or that it's weird for the universe to be created by thin air (which is also not what science says).

Yet how is it more likely that a male was created by dust and the female by a male rib and they made all the humans in the world by inbreeding/incest.

Or how is it more likely for a more complex creator to pop in from thin air.

I'm an atheist.

And for those agnostics complaining about the lack of poll options, get over it.

If you're agnostic, you're essentially an agnostic atheist.

Atheism is a lack of belief in a god, and if you're not sure whether one exists, you don't believe.

Agnostic. Until the churches that be and the cults in general clean up their acts (Which will NOT clean up their pasts) I have yet to find any church that I can respect.

Quick question for y'all here: What do you define as a "god"?
