In fancy smancy colours:

iphone2013-0069.jpg

iphone2013-0119.jpg

iphone2013-0072.jpg

iphone2013-0078.jpg

Specs haven't been confirmed in full, but it seems like it's got more or less the same insides as the current iPhone 5, about to be upgraded to the faster 5s. They start at $99 with a two year contract, which seems hefty for the 'cheap' option.

Any takers?

When I upgrade my current iPhone, it will be to the fancier model, but I think Apple is right to offer the cheaper options.

While I'm here, just revealed the 5s:

iphone2013-0140.jpg

Ditching white for silver? And what the **** is that bling colour in the middle?

iphone2013-0144.jpg

The home button has a built-in finger print scanner and it wont unlock for anyone but you.

Could be cool. Could be annoying.

Also has a 64-bit processor. In a phone? That's pretty insane.

Pretty much what all the rumors were saying. If I was in the market for a new phone I would buy.

Ninja-Hippo

64 bit is going to be useless for the most part, phone doesn't even have 4gb of RAM, so it's only going to affect some apps.

Also, what if you were a former world class jewel thief and you don't have fingerprints? Way to discriminate Apple. :(

They're both ugly and there is nothing innovative about either of the new iPhones. iOS 7 is also ugly, and once again, nothing innovative.

I'll take the recently announced Note 3. USB 3 port, 2.3ghz quad core Snapdragon 800, 3gb RAM, 32 and 64gb storage options WITH SD card support, and a 5.7inch 1080p OLED, all in a body that's smaller than the Note 2. It's far more innovative.

I'm not sure a fingerprint scanner is going to be a desired feature considering all the conspiracies with NSA and large companies and them breaking into smartphones. Plus if you cut your finger you'll have to have another way to unlock the phone. Very underwhelmed and i think HTC, Droid, and Samsung are actually happy about this.

According to the story the fingerprint unlock is optional and you can still use the same unlock methods as the previous models. Of course, that won't stop people from thinking the NSA is going to steal your thumbprint with this just like people are worried they are using Kinect to spy on you.

I actually agree. The S4 at 5in is honestly slightly bigger than i would like. The Note is technically a Phablet, but i would rather keep them separate.

Wow, pretty lame release. Adding a few extra gimmicks and of course new iOS which has an unlock screen that looks oddly like some android screens. Still the crappy UI like the current iOS. $99 on-contract for the cheap phone that's pretty terrible. It should be free on contract 99-199 off contract.

This is the first time I've actually been eligible for an upgrade when a new iPhone is releasing since 2007 when the original iPhone came out. I'm going to pre-order the Gold 32GB 5S on Friday.

Next week is going to be the best week of all time: Breaking Bad + Football on Sunday, GTA V on Tuesday, and then new iPhone on Friday.

The cheap one is $100 with a contract? What's the point of it then? You're saving less than like 5% of your total bill over two years then.

Someone hasn't kept up on Snowden leaks. The NSA has backdoors in practically everything. Hell they broke numerous types of encryption that the internet relies on just to have back doors in things.

They do a lot more then SSL certificates they pressure all kinds of tech companies for different backdoors.... If you don't think the NSA has some type of backdoor into something as popular as IOS then I don't know what to say.

Dude the 5 know longer exists, they are canning the phone and replacing it with a 5S. Their low cost option is the iphone 4, which should have been canned instead and the 5 made free on contract, then they could have had a real shot at recapturing lost markets. As it stands now I predict they will continue to lose market share.

So I've read that the 5S won't be available for pre-order, which is incredibly disappointing, but does anybody happen to know from experience what time this will be available to order at the Apple online store on the 20th? I'm hoping I could order it at midnight. I'm not going to wait in line for this.

I used to think Android was the better choice for me. The specs, bigger screen, and custom ROMs would be what I'd get obsessed with. Then I held my friend's iPhone 5 and come to realize, that the screen may be small but it showed just much content as it did on my Galaxy Nexus (like on Twitter, Facebook, email, etc), didn't need a custom ROM as every app just worked, and the design felt very nice on my hands. This time, I don't mind buying the iPhone, regardless of its high yet premium price.
