Anyone else think the old Simpsons episodes are overrated?

There aren't that many jokes--gets kind of boring sometimes. I like the philosophy of throwing as many jokes as you can out there... some of them are bound to stick, like the Airplane! movies. Some of the jokes are stupid, usually ones involving Homer. Sorry, I don't find it funny that you're a self-centered slob. I just have a hard time seeing why people say the episodes from the '90s are so great. I judge comedy shows based on how often they make me laugh, and it doesn't happen that often when I watch the Simpsons. I do find some of the plots funny when I think back on them, like talking about them with someone else, so maybe it's just not laugh-out comedy or something. Anybody else feel the same way?

No but I think the hate for the new simpsons is overrated. Its not as good as the old but its still pretty funny.

Depends on the episodes. But some of the older epsisodes had some truly classic dialogue.

For example (after Homer got Mr Burns to write a $400 check to sponsor Homer's bowling team)...

Burns: What is this, Smithers? A $400 check for bowling?!"

Smithers: No, that was for your boweling, sir. Remember what happened the last time you missed it?

Burns: ha ha, oh yes. Must have the boweling. What's this?! A $400 check for bowling?!

Or in the same episode...(after Springfield Elementary implemented mandatory school unidforms)...

Bart: These eggs suck.

Marge: Bart! Where did you learn that kind of language?!

Homer: (talking on the phone to one of his bowling buddies): Man, did you see that team? Man, did they suck. They were the suckiest bunch of sucks who ever sucked.

Marge: Homer....!

Homer: Sorry, gotta go. My damn weiner kids are listening.

Bart and Lisa: "We're not weiners!"

Homer: Oh yeah? Then why are you wearing those uniforms?

Bart and Lisa: Because they made us.

Homer: (mockingly waving his hands in the air): "Oh, they Made us!" That's Loser Talk! You need to be more like me and my bowling team!

The showrunner from seasons 9-12 said- "Lower your quality standards. Once you've done that you can go on forever."

This is pretty much why I can't watch it anymore. It used to be great - but today the storylines aren't a 10th as good as they used to be. What's sad is they aren't even trying to be great anymore- they're simply churning out crap because it's easier.

So essentially they took a great show and they ruined it -there is no point to watch it these days.

i do agree with you! we should think, foristance, about the last episode... the opening with that song has been really awful!

I remember that the first episodes make me laughed several times, leaving a moral teaching as well.

Hit the nail on the head -- seasons 2-10 are some of the best TV of all time.

No way in hell, a lot of them even hold up today, even compared to new episodes.

First couple of seasons were okay but nothing special, seasons 4-14 were golden.

I hated the first couple of seasons. Once they changed the art style I started t like it a lot more and these were my favorite episodes. The newer episodes (the last 2 or 3 years) are not quite as good but I still like them quite a bit.

Middle Episodes > New Episodes > Old Episodes

Nah personally I love the older episodes, new ones are okay I still watch them and laugh but I just feel they don't compare.
