Anybody growing a garden this season? I am for the first time ever. I don't really have too much space, but I am going to give it a try. I think I have settled on trying Tomatoes (three different types), hot peppers (three types), Watermelon (three types), and cantaloupe. I am also considering growing strawberries, but if I do, they will be in pots. Just learned they can't be grown around tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and eggplants because they stand a good chance of cattching a disease. I will be growing one of each type of each vegetable I listed.

If you are growing a garden, what do you plan on growing?

Unfortunately most of the answers you're going to get on gaming sites will have nothing to do with produce.

Yeah after reading this, I decided if I did try strawberries, it would be in pots. They sound hard to grow.

I wish I could start a garden but I don't have a yard or suitably sunny place to grow plants. :(

I tried everything but something unfortunate happened, long story short my bunnies got out of hand and I now have a animal problem and they are eating my garden D:

Have you ever thought about pot gardening? Do you have a patio or anything like that? If so, you could try that. If not, I know how you feel. I couldn't grow where I lived before where i am now. It sucked.

I'm in college right now. Besides not having access to a good window that gets sunlight (I'm right next to a wall) I also happen to be in Ohio.

How do you keep your plants alive then? :P

Between the complete lack of sunlight and drowning in all the rain I'm wondering how there's any life in Ohio at all.

Yeah we have been getting a lot of rain. I haven't actually put any plants in the ground yet. I just broke up the dirt the other day to prepare for when I do plant. I will be planting in like 1.5 weeks. I broke the dirt up now so I could kill the weeds and keep a watch out for more weeds until I do plant. Where i am planting, my plants will get 6-8 hours of sun a day, so I don't have to worry about that. My soil seems to be pretty nice. If not, that's what they make nutrients for. As for water (if the rain ever stops long enough for me to need water), I will take care of that.

yep. Potatoes, onions, garlic, carrots, peppers, beets, lettuce, peas, cucumbers and some herbs.

A few things we forgot, and will get in the ground before the weekend.

Not my own but I was taken around my campus the other day and shown which fruits and plants you can eat and it was great. The fruits aren't really out yet but some of the plants were delicious. Young birch leaves go great in a salad and nettle soup is actually pretty good :)

I live on a farm and we grow a very large garden (an acre) on it we grow watermelons, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, okra, eggplants, and sweet corn. We grow enough to feed ourselves and some friends. If you want to make it as a farmer down here, you have to own thousands of acres to be profitable. It's great you have an interest in growing your own food. Make sure to research when to grow certain crops and the amount/type of fertilizer to give each one (as well as the water you give em). We personally don't use pesticides because we have several ponds which the field runs off into.

I actually never got around to having the time to plant anything last year like I wanted. But this year I am growing. I am getting a late start, but I already have my garden area ready and fenced off. I have seeds going that I started yesterday. I am growing two types of watermelon and one type of tomato. I am growing....

Orange Tendersweet (yes that is orange flesh and not red that you are seeing)

Black Diamond Yellow Flesh

Riesentraube Tomato (German Tomato)

We've got a garden. Got tomatoes, peas, beans, peppers, lettuce, onions, spinach, Chinese cabbage, beets, and some other onion-like plant. Also have a little herb garden with chives, sweet basil, and a couple other things I can't remember.

Yeah from what I read, you do have to put a bit more effort into growing them. I will be trying my hand at growing a yellow strawberries next season.

I didn't grow any peppers this year, but they are going to be a big focus of next season for me. I want to grow thai yellow chili peppers and chocolete habanero peppers, sweet chocolete peppers, and red marconi peppers. This is the site I ordered my black diamond seeds from. www.rareseeds.com They have a lot of old seeds.

My dad used to grow jalapenos and other peppers years ago. I didn't eat any of them, because my tastebuds were still wussy back then. Like 6 years ago.
