70% of Americans do not get enough vitamin D (which can be obtained from the diet, or from the sun). Deficiency in Vitamin D increases the risk of certain cancers and autoimmune diseases like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

You gonna get skin cancer and dieabeaties with all that sugar. ;oYou just can't win anymore. lil bit of everything and you'll be allll right.[QUOTE="KiIIyou"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]
A lot of people don't spend enough time in the sun. Glad I'm outdoors a lot and drink OJ with added Vitamin D.

With all the "Wear SPF 100 or you'll drop dead!" ads on TV you'd think it was the other way around/EponiqueIt's a bit of a delicate balance, sunlight causes cholesterol to convert into Vitamin D, but sunlight also contains UV rays that can cause mutations in your skin cells.
I'm sure the majority of the human population in general are deficient in a lot of nutrients due to obesity, malnutrition, or not enough exercise. Hell, there are more obese people now than malnourished people.
Maybe if we took some food from the obese and gave it to the malnourished we could solve both problems. Although I think obese people can still be deficient in some nutrients.I'm sure the majority of the human population in general are deficient in a lot of nutrients due to obesity, malnutrition, or not enough exercise. I actually remember seeing an article stating that the world has enough food to feed 12 billion people, which is almost twice the current population of 7 billion. What the hell are we waiting for then?[QUOTE="gamerguru100"]

What the hell are we waiting for then? I've heard similar things too. I remember in high school reading in one of my books where a publication by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops stated that there is indeed enough food for everybody, but certain countries were using much more than they need. I also think Pope Benedict XVI has said that part of the reason people are starving is not because there is not enough food, but because the way the global economy is set up people in third world countries do not have access to world markets since they have no money and because many poor countries lack the proper infrastructure to transport food.[QUOTE="gamerguru100"]

Basically Mao wanted the country to industrialize so he told everyone to start making steel, which lead to mass famine since the farmers stopped farming to make steel (and really home made steel is pretty crappy). Also there was the Holdomor in the Ukraine where the Soviets purposely tried to starve the Ukrainian people[QUOTE="gamerguru100"] I actually remember seeing an article stating that the world has enough food to feed 12 billion people, which is almost twice the current population of 7 billion. ew, it's so thickI'm sure 70% of Americans have more than just a Vitamin D deficiency. Too little fruits and veg, too little whole grains.
