We live in a land of extremes in Australia. No less than two years ago we had the Black Saturday bushfires, which burned over 4,500 square kilometres (1.1 million acres) of bushland, and killed 173 people. Now we have floods in Queensland.
Floods are not uncommon in Australia, even in the midst of drought. However this flood is just massive. Currently there is over 1,032,000 square kilometres effected by this flood. That's the size of France and Germany combined. And the rain still pours. Luckily there have only been a few fatalities, but my sympathies are still with the families who have lost their homes and livelihoods.
