Its remote, fast, and automatic. It scans every single app in the marketplace and every app uploaded as it is uploaded. It wont effect upload time of legit apps. Its wont automatically remove apps that are flagged, but instead sends them off to actual, live human beings to check them out.

Its called "Bouncer". If it works, its the end of any malware issues in the android Marketplace, and probably the best possible compromise for a free market.

It was never really a problem to begin with.

Prior to this, the entire market was based on user policing and the honor system. It wasn't a huge problem yet, but it existed and only would have gotten worse. This would need to be implemented sooner or later, and personally, I think we can all agree sooner is better

For people like us who know a thing or two about our cellphones before we buy them yes.

But for the average person who just knows that they can get free apps on their phone for the first time, it can be somewhat of a problem for them.

Hmm, suppose that's a good point....

No, but you can get malware. It can't spread or anything, it can just steal information from your phone. You can ONLY catch malware by downloading an infected app (you can't catch it by browsing or anything like that).

Infected apps are most commonly found on non-Market sources. However, infected apps do find their way onto the Market occasionally too. These are usually easy to spot, and include apps such as "Hot Asian Girl Live Wallpapers" or "Real X-Ray Scanner" or other similarily stupid apps that you wouldn't download on your computer either. Most apps with Malware are reported and removed quickly.

As long as you download apps from the Market that have a positive rating, you're 100% fine.
