I'm still on the iphone 6. Thinking of going for g6, also opened to one+5 and s8, but it seems like I can get unlocked g6 in the 400 range. How jarring would the change be? I only vaguely used an android when I have to borrow a phone or tablet, and how easy is it to mod the phone? I NEED the phone to be able to play, stop, skip with volume button.

I'm leaning toward a g6 myself. I keep hearing every update pushed to the S8 slows it down or causes problems

@Bikouchu35: LG G6 is a 2017 phone, but it has the specs of a 2016 model, that's side-grade, not an upgrade.

The real 2017 LG model is the v30.

Also $400 USD for the G6 is way too much, find one for $350 or you're over-paying.

The OP5, GS8/8+ and the MI6 are the only phones in the "high-end" market this year.

Wait a few months. iPhone 8 is set to blow the competition away even more so than every other previous iteration (as per usual)

@Celsius765: Useless logistics. Unnecessary strain on resources. 500 ppi on a 4-6 inch screen is spec bloat.

@mister-man: i think it's doable they already bumped it up to 401 on the plus models. 326ppi and 401ppi make for pretty average image quality. And less you forget apple knows how optimize

@Celsius765: Kidding, I hope? Just seven years ago, we had even smaller screens with a PPI of less than 100.

Complete utter spec bloat. There is no need to have 500 ppi on a screen that doesn't exceed 6 inches. On a 12 inch tablet, that makes useful sense, and even then, it wouldn't be completely necessary

No one is going to be using a smartphone one inch away from their eyeballs. Higher PPI for the sake of higher PPI is a horrible idea. There's no gain unless you use a magnifying glass to use your screen. It's even more useless than an Android with 8GB of RAM (spec bloat, and still runs slower than iPhones with 2GB)

@mister-man: I only say 500 because I've seen the difference. My mom has a 6s plus the clarity can be mediocre at times compared to phones with higher pixel density. And no you would not need a magnifying glass that makes no sense. I'm beginning to think you don't like improvements in specs. Clearer screen quality would be especially helpful for people with vision problems. And stop saying bloating 500ppi isn't even something new and I'm not asking for them to super inflate every aspect of the specs, they do a very efficient job everywhere except the screen (and the thin plastic on the lightning cables, will look into ******). I ask for better screen quality because I watch movies and read on the go sometimes. Iphone needs a better screen and sun glare resistance (if the iPhone 7 doesn't have it.). Right now iphone screens are about as good as a Note 3 and that came out in 2012. And let me tell you I have a note 3 the image quality at times when I'm watching shows sometimes I'd laughable.

You seem to be against apple improving their hardware while also improving their software why is that, are you not confident in their engineering skill? You're usually pretty confident in what apple is capable of. Are they not capable I'm making their screens better? They seem to handle audio pretty well. Granted it was a demo unit but iphone has some of the loudest and clearest audio.

@Celsius765: 500 ppi is spec bloat. On a 5 inch screen, 500 ppi is not a noticeable difference to the human eye from around 300. There's a good reason Apple doesn't join the numbers war. Just like how they averted joining the RAM and Megapixel race.

It's really useless and I don't care for it. No one really does. If we're talking 12-24 inch screens, give me 500 ppi. Otherwise, it's really nothing better. I've seen screens at 500 compared to my own phone. There's no discernable difference unless you held a magnifying glass up to the screen to observe the pixel density, which no one will do. You're being ridiculous.

Apple already keeps their mobile devices relatively inexpensive (punch for punch, they just perform vastly better than Android phones, maintain after-market value while still being as much as most high-end android phones). I'd like them to keep it that way. Unnecessary spec bloat would increase price. Just ask Google. So much Android junk with bloated specs that cost just as much as an iPhone, yet performs much worse in real world tests and benchmarks. No thanks.

I would say switch right away. Spending $800 to $1000 on an iPhone is idiotic. There are great Android phones for just $200 to $300, and Android phones that match iPhones in everyday performance cost only $300-600. The Pixel is a flagship Google phone, and that costs only $649 for the baseline model with 32 GB of storage. Switch to Android, and save yourself hundreds of dollars. The Apple "experience" aka gulag is not worth your hard earned bucks.

@Kjranu: iPhone 6 starts at $300 on Amazon (and still rapes every Android handset in benchmark tests and real world usage videos)

iPhone 7 factory unlocked 32GB starts at $500. And is uncontested in scientific-testing environments.

Try again.

@Celsius765: He's a troll you know? and a pathetic one, he's had his alts banned on SW. He wont listen to reason, backwards Apple would probably be stuck on 4" iPhones if Jobs hadn't died.

@GTR12: he may as well be a troll, he's not very open to the possible specs a phone could have. And for all his apple hyping he acts as if they can't handle higher ppi.

P10 plus in my view, or Honor 8 pro.

Fastest CPU on the market and don't have gross 70% profit margin Apple desires.

@Celsius765: We all already know what specs on paper amount to out in the real world: Squat.

500 ppi on a 5 inch screen isn't reasonable. it's superfluous at best and completely useless at worst.

Take a look at our video game consoles and what people say about the 4K push. It's entirely stupid and a majority of gamers would prefer if developers focused on other aspects of graphics like consistent 60fps and higher quality textures and effects, and wouldn't you know it, over-all smoother gameplay.

Same deal. 500 ppi on a tiny screen is just flat stupid as it stands today. The average person won't discern between 300ppi and 500ppi unless, again, they held a magnifying glass to observe pixels up close.

Slap 500ppi on tablets at 12 inches or more, and that will make much more sense. This is reason. I'm exhibiting it.

Spec whoring is exactly what landed the Android camp with bloated hardware that gets trounced repeatedly by a single phone with half the specs. No thanks. Keep all that noise in that camp.

I'm sure people care about benchmarks when they browse Facebook or watch Netflix.
