You can't really go wrong with the Note 8, it's definitely a nice bit of hardware. If you wait too long, the S9/S9+ will be out before you know it. Apparently they're coming in March this year, possibly announced in February. Obviously the main downsides to the Note are the price, the Samsung software and lack of machine learning hardware. Of course, the screen is brilliant.

Also, it seems that the Pixel XL 2 is having a lot of issues, not just the screen: https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/24/16519530/google-pixel-2xl-screen-issues-deep-and-unfixable
Circle back to the MKBHD video, his model didn't have a lot of those issues, so a number are quality control related. He did a decent job at picking out the key problems, although not without flaw. He did get a number of things wrong in his video. Of course, we'll see how a lot of this plays out over the next couple of weeks as Google is investigating any major issues, as well adjusting the colors in software.
Well, I have been with Samsung since the Note 2 and I have been pretty happy, but I wanted to mixed things up. Currently, I have a Note 5 and I have loved this phone, but after I cracked my screen and I started having performance issues I thought it was time for a new phone (have had this phone for over 2 years). It is apparent that Google has SERIOUS hardware issues that they really need to figure out. Instead of having LG and HTC make phones for them, they really need to start making them internally like Apple. Also, this whole stock issue is the same thing that has plagued every Google phone launch and it seems that Google is still not learning from their mistakes.
I saw the MKBHD video, but I also watched about 10 other videos discussing the screen issue and it is not looking good. When people start throwing the word "recall" out I tend to get a little worried.
The Google Pixel XL 2 might have a slightly better camera than the Note 8 and have better software (will also get updates faster), but that's it. For everything else, the Note 8 does it better- it has a much better screen, an SD card slot, a stylus, a 3.5mm jack and better water resistance.
