It's still unclear who will qualify for this, but the way it looks, gamers who have been xbox live paying customers since the service began in 2002 might be receiving a free custom-made 250GB xbox 360 (pictured above), which does look like absolute crap, but should sell for a nice price to collectors on ebay.

So, if you're one of the few who have spent over $500 along 10 years for xbox live gold access, stay on the lookout for suspicious deliveries to your home from MS in the near future.

I think it's kind of neat looking - not beautiful, certainly, but better than most of the customized 360s I've seen over the years. I'm annoyed by this deal if it does turn out to be for all early subscribers, though. I was an XBL member from launch, but changed accounts near the 360 launch and my current status is based on that new username.

Pretty sweet deal unfortunately I'm only nearing on 8 years. :(

Subscribed at day one, but missed a year or two. We need more details. Console looks great, other than the graphics. I really dig the grey/orange/green, though--in fact, that should have been the console design from the start.

Only been a subscriber for 6 years. I now want what I cannot have.

You spend $500 for 10 years of Gold and you get a free $300 console for the effort. Not bad.

I'm guessing a lot of the people who will get these consoles haven't even paid that much for their subscription. I know I've never paid more than $35 for Gold as long as I've been subscribing. Too many sales go on to pay full price. Back when it was $50 a year you could easily find it on sale for $20-$25.

Still a pretty cool thing for MS to do.

Darn. Only 9 more years to go for me.

That is pretty nice if Microsoft actually does this.

I know I didn't get a 360 at launch, I got one around the time that Assassin's Creed hit.

Retail $300, but consider that the production cost is around $100 now.

I guess that goes well with... oh i dunno, your xbox live subscription.... and.... that other xbox you just so happened to have which was the reason you got xbox live in the first place....
