please put your reasons as well! then we know why.
mine is games because they've just taken up the majority of my 'entertainment time' since i've been playing them. they're both very different mediums though. films are more of a relaxation or an event with another person. games feel more solitary and are defined a lot by the physical input through the controller. also, games don't end...so i'd say it's more of a recreation. and personally, i wouldn't play a game for its narrative quality..so films win my vote for plot and characters (generally).
About the same.
Movies have deeper stories and characterisation
but games last longer and can be more involving.
Video games for sure, I mean I can't tell you how few movies have actually had as much of an emotional impact on me as a game like Final Fantasy 7, Metal Gear Solid 3, Mass Effect or Persona 3 to name a few have. You have a much more vested interest in the characters in those games and in games in general. You control their actions (even if the game is as scripted as a movie), you have power whether you live or die in a fight, so ultimately it is an active, rather than passive experience which enhances your connection to the plot and characters.
That and if we are talking about a more highly action oriented movie, vs. a shooter or something, I'd rather play that shooter which changes dynamically each time you get into a gun fight than watch Arnold shoot a shotgun through the T1000 for the 80th time.
That isn't to say I hate movies, no, I love them too, but between a good movie and a good game, I'll take the game anyday...
Except for comedies, movies have that on lock still.
Well, the reason why I chose videogames instead is because:
Videogames can be played for over 50 hours and can be repeated with the same fun and enjoyment.Movies last only 2 hours or less, and usually can't be fully enjoyed more than one time.
Videogames can be really engrossing, and you are also can be in charge of how the story goes. Movies engrosses you too.
A videogame's story can be incredibly long and engrossing. Movies last for two hours.
Videogames lets you dynamically choose the action sequence, but there are always limits. Movies' action sequence is unlimited in variety, but it stays that way.
Modern videogames' graphics are almost photorealistic, so their looks are now comparable to movies'.
I don't mind watching a good movies, but again the can usually only consume two hours each week
Well with video games now-a-days it's sometimes like being IN a movie, you yourself are a part of the experience.
Movies only bring spectating enjoyment, which in comparasion isn't as good. Just like playing a sport compared to watching it.
Right now, it would probably be gunfight and martial arts movies. I still have a lot of games to get though.
