What was the last game you played that had lives?

It seems to be a quickly diminishing gameplay element in most games, as most games just have checkpoints where you restart if you die.

For me, well there aren't any PS3 games i've played with them, and the only PS2 games have to be the Crash Bandicoot ones and maybe Sly 1. And New Super Mario Bros. on DS.

Platformers still tend to have them. Like Sonic Colours, Sonic 4, Mario galaxy, New Super Mario Bros DS and Wii.

Super Mario Galaxy for me. Games like that still have them and I'm fine without having lives on something like BC2.

Last game I played to have lives was Sonic 4 Ep. 1.

New SMB on Wii. You're right we need more games with lives, also old school cheats and memorable characters.

Bring back lives and crushing "You suck" game over screens complete with world blowing up.

Mario Galaxy 2. The weird part there is that lives in that game are basically meaningless, as death simply puts you back on the map screen where you hit A to go right back into the level. Why they didn't abolish them entirely, I have no idea. Maybe they think people still like lives counters in this day and age. Just...it's 2011 now, not 1990.DJ_Lae

I think Nintendo keeps them in for tradition; it would be weird for the green mushroom to be absent in a Mario game.

if i recall correctly....games dont have lives. i thought they were just simple discs or something with no life in them whatsoever

Oh, my...I'd say probably Donkey Kong Country Returns, or Super Mario Bros. 2 on the Virtual Console. Indeed, the "lives" system seems to be vanishing.
