Faster processing, seemless transitions between screens, cutscenes, and gameplay. Smooth framerate, no texting popping, etc.

Return of the console-centric JRPGs

Project X on the Wii U, Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III on the HD twins, and an eventual Persona 5 on whatever (probably PS3).

Granted I expect 3DS will garner the most Japanese support but it'll be nice to see console JRPGs given a clean slate to work with next gen.

Better AI, that'll be very nice. And than pretty much what everyone else has brought up. Seemless this seemless that, nice transitions and all that greatness.

I don't expect much improvement in gameplay from the upcoming tech. Last gen barely improved in that regard. I just look forward to more great titles.

However, the genre to watch this gen, as it was with last gen, is definitely the open world genre. I look forward to see how inFAMOUS Second Son in particular comes together.

TLG.

Star Wars games.

Lego games.

Elder Scrolls VI.

Remodelled DS4.

ND's next gen outing.

Reduction on load times. To ask for 0 is unrealistic. That'd be far too much to ask for. Right?

Boot to start/continue screen. One can only dream.

I'm looking for surprises. I'm debating whether to pick up the PS4 I have pre-ordered at launch because so many of the next-gen games are on 360/PS3 next year too. Dying Light, Metal Gear Solid 5, TitanFall, Destiny. I see no reason to upgrade since these games won't even be able to do anything crazy good gameplay wise with next-gen hardware since they still have to run on current gen consoles.

I mean what's the point of upgrading this year or next year if the only real big exclusives that can ONLY be done on PS4/Xbox One are InFamous, Killzone, Forza and,... I don't maybe Halo 5 next holiday, maybe a Naughty Dog game? Seems like it would be smarter to simply wait until late 2014 or even 2015 to let these new consoles build a library of good next-gen games that aren't available on current gen hardware. By then hopefully price will be down too.

I am looking forward to another online paywall. Before you all assert I am being sarcastic, let me say something. Microsoft requires payment for most of the features offered by the Xbox Live service. Sony did not this generation and the same is true for Nintendo and the Wii. Xbox Live is the best. While I have enjoyed the freedom to play with friends and acquaintances without charge, I would like improvements to SEN. My money will fund that and my confidence in Sony is due to the message that company is making telling the world it is for the players and not building a workforce of sub-par salarymen (that last part is implied). No offense to hardworking salarymen or women.

User generated content being more popular and powerful than ever due to games like Project Spark and Media Molecule's unnamed project.

maxresdefault.jpg

Indie games hitting new heights and possibly exploring higher pricepoints (of course, some are going in the opposite direction, FTP).

RESOGUN.png

I expect the budgets of full priced retail games will continue to skyrocket as those who sit on successful franchises offer consumers more and more content for their $60 (those who want to successfuly compete with them have to try to match them).

I hope devs make sure all their games are actually 30 FPS this time around, we got alot of sub 30 FPS games this gen, really annoying.

Less jaggies and fast downloading would be nice too.

I'm looking forward to better graphics, as well as the new entries in my favorite franchises: Call of Duty, Halo, Mass Effect, Splinter Cell, Dead Space, Assassin's Creed, and Forza. I have the XBox One preordered and I can't wait for November 22.

GTA V on better hardware with better performance. Rocksteady's new game. Games like The Puppeteer (I swear the developers must've been high as kites making that one). Not much else really.

Better graphics and framerates. Shorter loading times and no pop ins while gaming. Gameplay overall seems ok for most games so no other complaints really.

No pop-ins or loading times, larger and deeper open worlds to explore with more content for games like Fallout 4. I want games like that to have 200-500 hours of single player content.

For it to start. Not because I'm buying a next-gen console right away, but because I can't stand the pointless bickering between the fanboy communities about which one will 'win'...who cares

As far as gaming, Fallout. I'm excited about the possibilities for that

I want to see what they can do with open world games with more to work with. I've been impressed at what's been done for current gen in that department, but I really want to be blown away by open world games this upcoming gen. Most specifically, I'm looking forward to the next Fallout game. I know it hasn't been announced, but I have little doubt that a next-gen Fallout game is in the works.

GPGPU. i would love to see someone like turn 10 or polyphony say "right...out next game will have basically PS3/360 graphics and we will use the GPU to create a more accurate CFD simulation for racing". that could be very kewl. also things like moving hair, clothes etc based on wind direction and player movement. more destructable environments. if the player knocks and enemy into a wall it should be possible to knock them through a wall. there will probably always be practical limits to this though it would be cool if, in elder scrolls say, you knock a troll through someone house and later, as you walk by, you see the house getting fixed (and one very angry house owner). it could even go back into the gameplay. Quest: stop a troll terrorising the locals. Bonus: try not to make a mess while doing it. those are doable. the impossible that i would like to see: loading times gone (not going to happen) improved AI (probably not going to happen)

More physics: destruction, cloth, particle effects, moving parts in general, better lighting etc. Both for visuals, but also for gameplay.

Mainly seemless transitions; a la game boots nigh-immediately, can jump to home screen or other function immediately. Definitely want more customization. Game-wise, better AI more organic game environments.

I personally want bigger worlds, or at least more contained worlds with less loading screens. Hopefully less glitches. Better AI would also be nice when it comes to teammates and enemies

I think I'm looking forward to variation, more than anything. There will obviously be graphical limitations, but everything else should be pretty much wide open for developers.
