Alright everyone,

I'm considering the next box art activity. The last one we had was about the top rental releases, which is a module that can be seen on the bottom of the news page. I planned to start the next activity late March or April 2 to avoid the April Fools rush. :)

I would like to know what kind of box art themes you would be interested in. Think broad! Think narrow!

I am already thinking about these.

- Spooky games [good for October]
- Classic games [might start off with Atari and/or NES]
- Monkey games [Justin Calvert's MUST]
- War games [there would need to be military infantry or tanks on the box cover]
- Romantic games
- Puzzle games [the puzzle pieces need to be on the box cover]
- Gangster games
- GameSpot review rating
- Fighting games
- Dragon games! [although, it might need to be a fantasy/wizardry list of games]
- Ninja games
- Movie games

Think I'm running out of ideas now. Go ahead and post your suggestions and mention if any of the current list I have sound good.

Fighting games and Obscurely terrible games (according to reviews) would be a challenge.

Also, I like the Military game idea.

Yes! Absolutely! I also like the puzzle and gangsters themes. For other themes: games with dragons!

Maybe Sci-Fi and Fantasy themes? We have got dozens of games made in those particular settings.

Games from a certain developer. One who has made a lot of games, some popular some more obscure. Like Atlus. Games banned or edited for content in Australia/Germany could be fun. All those old ones where they used to replace the people with robots and things like that.

I don't like Monkies. Unless it is Monkeys Island

Great idea and all the one's on your list sound really good especially the one for October. As for this next one perhaps one focused on mythology in general would be good or one focused on a specific mythylogical theme ie. Greek in honour of God of War 3's release would be good too especially if the contest starts before the beginning of April.

Dont forget though, we might be able to compile some of these themes into one box art activity. So, maybe there is a way to combine some of them. We only have 9 months left for 2010. :)

Aslyum_Beast: Interesting, maybe we'll have one based on the GameSpot review ratings. That way I could have a hint on the game's review rating on this site. Nice idea!

gbrading: The nice thing, I could ask Justin what games to have in this box art session.

der_spudmeister: Nice idea, I love dragons so this would be a must. I might have to put it under a type of fantasy/wizardy theme, though.

All your ideas are nice Jody. The Ninja one sounds fun. My only suggestion would be to go by a certain console past or present. There would also be more consoles then there are month's left in the year so it would work good. Or go by certain years.

Maybe a theme of cult classic games, or games that got great scores but sold poorly.

How about a theme where you could post box art for games that were released in the month of any given years? For example, the current month is March, so you could put up box art for games that came out in March 2004, March 1992, and so on.

What about superhero games? Ones based off comics? :P:D Umm...for easter, maybe games with bunnies in it. :P Like Rayman. Or Looney Toons. That might be kind of tough though. :P

Also, maybe games where the main character isn't a human. Just a thought.

Maybe I'm coming at this from totally the wrong angle, but I love the type of competition where they take partial images from lots of different boxart and you have to try and work out what all the different games are. Maybe something along the lines of GameSpot boxart competition, but where each of the letters is taken from the wording on various boxart.

I have a couple of Steam retail game codes to hand out for the next box hunt activity. Since this game code unlocks a Star Wars PC game on steam I plan to make the next box hunt about Star Wars games for current and old platforms! I'll share more details when we start this activity next week.

These ideas you all have are quite good and we'll use a variety of them in the coming months.

- "March Madness" (Games released in a certain month (ie March :P)

- "If one wasn't enough" (Sequels)

- "Use the Force" (Star Wars Games)

- "Put Your Warface On" (War games)

- "Outside the Box" (Sandbox games)

Edit:
I just read a few posts above this and noticed that you have decided the next one is a Star Wars game -- ignore that suggestion then!
