Hey gamespot users just wondering what the general consensus was on these two games.

I myself like Starcraft. I still believe its the best RTS to date but thats just my opinion :)

You should have created a poll for this. I do not see Star Craft as the best rts to date in fact I don't really like it that much. I prefer Age of Empires but I also do not see that as even close to the best rts of all time. I like games that you can focus a lot on defense and although the Terran allow you to defend in a way the defensive structures in Age of Empires allow me to create large bases protected by walls which is something that I enjoy while playing any strategy games.

I thought Starcraft was pretty bad, TBH(I LOVED Blizzard's other franchises, bar WoW, but I couldn't see the charm in Starcraft, it's a 2D Warcraft 3 with a rather generic sci-fi setting, a worse map editor, no way to play on teams offline and less stuff...XD), but I played Star Wars:Galactic Battlegrounds, which is supposedly just a rehash of an AoE game, and I loved it, so I'd definitely go with AoE. XD

Someone never played user map settings >_>, who also never realised that having an alien versus predator rts (essentially) is far from generic. By the way the battlegrounds game was the definition of generic >_>. Or at least clone. Hold on, I must admit, it was fun when they would send huge lines of droids, and totally take them out with AT AT. It had charm I must admit... But still, it was just a mod on AOE 2. Man, I forgot that game altogether 0_0

I played the hell out out of AOE2 when it came out but then I played starcraft for another period and then I got back into AOE2 and never unhooked. I tried replaying starcraft but it just wasnt the same.

Therefore AOE2, but starcraft is also a very good game.

Starcraft blew my mind. In fact, I haven't played another RTS game ever since. >_>

To say it improved upon Warcraft I & II would be a vast understatement, and Warcraft III was rather disappointing after Starcraft. The only other RTS I still really give a damn about is Herzog Zwei.

Starcraft hands down, completely unique races, balanced & a fast paced deel to it. AOE... i got bored quick with the similarities of the different teams you could pick.

Age of Empires is easier to play, and there's a much shallower learning curve since all the civilizations are basically the same excepting one special unit. With Starcraft, you have three completely different factions that take equal amounts of time to learn. I'm way better at AoE than Starcraft, but Starcraft is by far the more impressive and immersive of the two.
